LEVELS ON THE FIRST AND SECOND TRIMESTER OF PREGNANCY Naeny Fajriah1, Andisa Fadhila2, Maisuri T Chalid1 1 Bagian Obstetri dan Ginekologi 2 Fakultas Kedokteran Universitas Hasanuddin Makassar Abstract Introduction: Bacterial vaginosis (BV) is a clinical syndrome due to the change of Lactobacillus spp, which is the normal vaginal flora with a high concentration of anaerobic bacteria. The role of progesterone in the prevention of preterm delivery involves its capacity to promote anti-inflammatory and pro-relaxant pathways in the uterus thereby reducing uterine contractility. We hypothesized that progesterone would promote Lactobacillus spp. Dominance. Our aim is to find the association between progesterone levels with the incidence of bacterial vaginosis in the first and second trimester pregnant women. Method : Cross-sectional study, using a pregnant women in the first and second trimester. The sample consisted of 77 pregnant women who came for antenatal care with vaginal discharge, from January – April 2018. Statistical analysis using chi-square test. Results : No significance difference of Progesterone levels between BV and non BV group p = 0.233), while age, parity, education and occupation had no significant association (p> 0.05). Analysis of the progesterone levels with Amsel criteria, it was found that vaginal pH were found to have significant associations with progesterone levels (p=0.039, RR 2.095, 95% CI 1.003-4.554). Conclusions : There was a significant association between high levels of progesteron in first trimester of pregnancy with the incidence of bacterial vaginosis.
