Mi Tierra Natal

By: Angelique Agarap

As this all-embracing world relentlessly spins,

Countless places await me to come to the scenes
There’s this only hearth my heart wants me to bound,
An abode where I humbly dwell in exhilaration, safe and sound.

As the outmoded adage goes, “There’s no place like home.”

It feels like my psyche’s left in it no matter where I freely roam.
A fountainhead that beheld my existence in its entirety,
Welcomed me with open arms and gave me an identity.

Cognizant of the presence of myriads of picturesque scenery,

My wellspring, being beyond comparison is etched in my memory.
Above and beyond the beauteousness it is undeniably endowed with,
Astounding is its powers of recall from these days to back when I was a kid.

It was the foremost view I laid my eyes on and mumbled,

The grounds where I took my first step then stumbled.
The milieu that firstly offered me a rapport so heart-warming,
Where I have transfigured from a youngster to a fully-grown being.

As I went on my ongoing journey in this intricate sphere,

A multitude of paths will by and by draw near.
But there’s a sole direction I’ll always retrace my pace,
One that leads me way back home even the tracks interlace.
