Long Range Goals:

• Work with the community to increase library media center awareness.
o The American Library Association article, School Library Media Centers and
Intellectual Freedom written by Dianne McAfee Hopkins states, “School leaders
including library media specialists must be aggressive in regularly communicating
information about the district’s educational objectives, the purposes of school
library media programs, and in introducing information about selected materials
themselves. The communication can be accomplished through such means as
school newsletters, community newspapers and other information media, and
parent workshops or presentations on topics such as realism in children’s and
young adult literature. Communication must be facilitated both inside and outside
the district.”

• Use data collection methods to continuously evaluate the effectiveness of the program.
o Tracy Wong states in her article entitled, Strategic Long-Range Planning,
“Assessing the program helps ensure that the media center is a positive learning
community that continually grows to meet the needs of the community (AASL
i5).” She also adds, “School librarians should continually evaluate and assess
school library programs.”

• Increase library funds by raising $75,000 to purchase new technology and materials
through Three annual (2018-2021) book fairs.
o In the articles entitled, The Bottom Line: Managing Library Finances it states,
“Along with a long-range fundraising plan, Silverman (2008) tells us that
effective fundraising incentives need to build donor relationships. Building donor
relationships means determining effective services, programs and resources in
order to promote successful fundraising initiatives (Silverman, 2009).”

• Promotes student achievement by working collaboratively with teachers once a month to

plan and deliver instruction that effectively integrates information literacy and technology
into the state’s curriculum standards.
o The Position Statement on the School Librarian’s Role in Reading (AASL [2007]
2010b) comments on the instructional role of the school librarian in reading
development and is cited in Empowering Learners: “School librarians are in a
critical and unique position to partner with other educators to elevate the reading
development of learners” (AASL 2009a, 22).
