FIELD STUDY 3- TECHNOLOGY IN THE LEARNING

ENVIRONMENT
Episode 1: The School’s Learning Resource Center

MY ANALYSIS
Were the learning resources/materials arranged properly according to their functions and
characteristics?
 The learning resources/materials were arranged carefully for the convenience of the studentsThe location
as well as the arrangements of these materials provides the students with the advantage of accessing
these during trainings.
Do the guidelines and procedures facilitate easy access to the materials by the teachers? Why?
Why not?
 The institution had also implemented some of their own set of rules that will facilitate access to these
instructional materials with ease. Through these things, they can eventually maximize the use of each
material for the benefit of their students.
What are the strengths of this Learning Resource Center?
The following are the strengths of the institution’s Learning Resource Area:
 It is connected to the internet therefore capable of providing much wider source of information.
 The learning materials and supplies are quite enough for each student.
 Easy access on various learning resources and materials.
 There are competent teachers who can provide assistance.
What are its weaknesses?
 The weakness that I had observed is the availability of the computers during trainings. According to the
in-charge, there are some of these unfortunate students who will not be able to use to the computer until
the end of the session..
What suggestions can you make?
 For the benefit of the students as well the entire academy, the institution should produce additional units
of computers to respond and accommodate the needs of their students especially during trainings
MY REFLECTIONS
Which of the materials in the Learning Resource Center caught your interest the most? Why?
 The material that really caught my attention was this what they call Competency-Based Learning Module
duly required by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) for Technical-
Vocational Institutions. It contains various pieces of information about a particular competency program
wherein the students are tasked to read the contents of the material and perform certain learning
activities as well
Which gadgets/materials are you aleady confident to use/operate?
 For me, the gadget that I am very confident to use is the computer. That is because I already have the
skill which I obtained from the various experiences I had many years ago. Aside from that, I am a tech-
savvy. I love technology and the benefits that it provides me.
Which ones do you feel you need to learn more about?
 They are still things that I want to learn more especially when it comes to technology. Its the curiosity that
gives me the urge to know more and learn about it. It’s been there for decades and I want to utilized and
maximized its use for the benefit of all especially the next generations.

MY PORTFOLIO
The thing the I want to learn before I become a teacher someday is about videoconferencing. This would
be very useful especially that the internet dominates the exchange of information all around the globe.
This will also give an opportunity for distant learning wherein students can be taught at home instead
within just the four corners of the classroom

Episode 2: Bulletin Board Displays

MY ANALYSIS
 Provides me with an opportunity to give a more intent look at bulletin board displays and
determine the effectiveness of these displays in delivering in purpose and message. My
Intended Learning outcomes In this Episode, I must be able to:
 Evaluate bulletin board displays using a set of criteria for quality.
 Apply principles in designing an effective bulletin board display. My Performance Criteria I will
be rated along the following:
 Quality of my observation and documentation,
 Completeness and depth of analysis
 Depth and clarity of classroom observation-based reflection
 Completeness, organization, clarity of portfolio and
 Time of submission of my portfolio. My Learning Essentials 1. Bulletin Boards have four general
purposes
 Decorative- They offer visual stimulation and appeal to the aesthetics. They set the social and
psychological atmosphere of the school
 Motivational- They encourage students to perform better and have greater confidence. An
example would be the display of students’ outputs that show that each output is recognized and
valued. FS 3 FIELD STUDY Learning Episode

MY REFLECTION/NSIGHT
 Informational- They are used as a strategy to disseminate information.
 Instructional- They invite students to respond and participate through interactive displays.
 The set of criteria for evaluating bulletin board displays includes effective communication,
attractiveness, balance, unity, interactivity, legibility, correctness, and durability.
 My Map Display board, or what we more commonly refer to as bulletin board, is one of the most
readily available and versatile learning resources. To realize my Intended Learning Outcomes, I
will work my way through these steps:

MY ANALYSIS
 My Analysis After working on your slide presentation, answer the following questions: What
are the good features of a slide presentation?
 The good features of a slide presentation are, it have picture that can catch the attention of
the students, there are also animation and graphics, the color of the themes and the font
colors has unity so it is good in the eyes of the audience/learners. Also the font is readable; it
is not too big or too small. And lastly, the themes are appropriate on the topic. Which of these
features are present in the slide presentation you made?
 One of good features of my slide presentation is the color of the themes, the font colors have
unity and also my themes have connected to the topic of my slide presentation. I also make
sure that my font size is readable by the learners. Which features are not present in the slide
presentation you made?
 One of good features that are not present in my slide presentation is it don’t have pictures,
video presentation and audio presentation.
MY REFLECTION/INSIGHT
 My Reflection/Insights 1. What difficulties, if any, did you encounter in making the slide
presentation? How did you overcome them?  In making my slide presentation, I encounter
some difficulties like I don’t have themes that connected to my topic but I overcome this by
downloading thru internet. Another difficulties is I only have limited font style so I only use
simple styles and it is good that this style is too attractive to the eyes of the
audience/learners.
Episode 4: Tools of the Trade (Teaching Aids Bank)
MY ANALYSIS
Give at least three benefits of doing a survey of available materials before making your own materials?
Explain each.
 Conducting a survey of the available materials/resources saves the teacher’s time, money and effort as
well.
 Checking the availability of the materials/resources used for instruction assures its appropriateness for
each topic/lesson.
 Identifying all the available and non-available resources prior to the delivery of instruction gives the
teacher enough time to make necessary preparations.
MY REFLECTIONS
1. Which of the materials did you like making most? Why?
 My personal favorite is the flip chart. Unlike the others, it is simple yet able to convey the topic it is
purposely made for. Aside from that, making such teaching material is quite challenging. At first, anybody
would think that it is as easy as it looks. Just the same with any materials used for teaching, one should
carefully plan and organize its contents in such manner easily understood by the students.
2. What difficulties, if any, did you encounter in making the materials? How did you overcome
them?
 As what I’ve already experienced, one of the most difficult thing that anyone will probably encounter in the
process is the procurement of the resources needed in constructing these teaching materials. Some of
these are hard to find and sometimes quite costly to obtain. What I did last time, I constructed a teaching
aid out of indigenous materials usually found at home and the surroundings. Those were less expensive
and very easy to obtain. At first, I thought the aid would be less attractive than the original plan I had. I
was wrong then. It turned out to be a lot more unique and stunning than those aids I constructed before
out of colorful papers and expensive embellishments. Through that, I have learned being resourceful and
creative out of the things I found in the environment. It is not really that hard to make these teaching
materials as long as you will have the determination and willpower to carry out these things.
3. What tips can you give teachers regarding the preparation of teaching materials?
The following are simple tips in preparing teaching materials:
 Prior to the delivery of instruction, the teacher should always make sure that all of the teaching materials
he/she needs are available.
 The teacher should consider the use of indigenous materials in constructing his/her teaching aids. In this
manner, he/she will be able to save money and time as well.
 The teacher should employ his/her creative and artistic instinct in constructing teaching materials.
Remember, for these materials to be effective in delivering the lesson/topic, it should be capable of
drawing out the attention and focus of the students.
Episode 5: Technology Integration in the Classroom

MY ANALYSIS
 Based on the Technology Integration Matrix provided by the book, the resource teacher attained the
following levels: entry, adoption, adaptation, infusion, and transformation. For the resource teacher used the
technology, which are the laptop and projector from the very beginning of her class starting from prayer and
presentation of objectives, afterwards, she let the students to manipulate and operate the technology alone to
explain some part of the lesson and instead of just merely receiving information from the technology, the
resource teacher let the students to discuss the topic by themselves and to raise questions to their
classmates which eventually, when the classmate asked didn’t answer the question correctly, she manage
to answer it. After that, the resource teacher let the students to use the technology, which is a laptop, to make
their own “Academic Format Letter” in Microsoft Office Word” to be passed on their next meeting.

MY REFLECTION/INSIGHT
 Based on the Technology Integration Matrix, what is the characteristic of the learning
environment in the class that you observed?
The following are the characteristics of the learning environment in the class that I had observed:
Active: The resource teacher in the class that I had observed let her students to operate and set-up the projector
and the laptop before they start and during her discussion of the lesson.
Collaborative: The resource teacher of the class that I had observed grouped her students into five-member
each to present specific topics using the technology she prepared, the laptop and projector.
Constructive: The technology; laptop and projector served as the main teaching aids of the resource teacher that
I had observed, therefore it serves as the source of information in which the students construct their
understanding.Authentic: The resource teacher that I had observed asked the students to create their own
“Academic Format” using laptop in Microsoft Office Word Goal Directed: the resource teacher that we had
observed asked her students to prepare a power point presentation for the next students to report in front of the
class.
 Over-all, were the learning resources used effectively? Why? Why not? Give your
suggestions.
Overall, I must say that the resource teacher executes the learning resources well and effectively for the students
tend to collaborate and cooperate in her discussion and they tend to focus their attention on the projected power
point presentation projected onthe board. My only suggestion is that next time, it is more advisable to use
animation on the text that needs to get emphasized and also, use more images if pose.
Episode 6: My E-World
MY REFLECTIONS
1. Describe your experience surfing the internet for appropriate electronic resources for the
class? Did you find it easy or difficult?
Based on the experiences I had surfing the internet looking for appropriate electronic resources, I found it
very easy. Since I was in high school, I was gradually exposed to the internet. Every now and then, drove
by my own curiosity, I spent hours to explore the wonders of this information highway. Through those
learning experiences, it gave and equipped me with the right knowledge and skills to utilize and maximize
the benefits it brought to us this generation. With the help of computers and other internet-capable
devices, I could easily access and browse the web, choose among thousands of different resources
readily available in a few clicks.
2. How did you choose which electronic resources to include here? What did you consider?
Explain.
Before deciding which electronic resources to include in the activity, I came with some factors to consider.
These are the following:
 Availability –Is it readily available in the classroom and the surrounding community?
 Accessibility – Is it accessible for the students? Speaking of electronic resources on the net, does the
classroom have an internet connection?
 Practicability – is it practical for the students to use this kind of electronic resource? It is expensive or
cheap?
 Suitability – Is it suitable for their age and intellectual capacity and ability?
 Objective-matching – does the electronic resource matches the objectives of the lesson/topic? Is it related
to the instruction given by the teacher?
3. Reflect on your technology skills – What skills do you already have and what skills would you
continue to work on to be better at utilizing electronic resources?
I am proficient in terms of my basic and mid-level computer skills. That’s the most important thing I need
for me to utilize and maximize the electronic resources around me especially those over the internet. With
regards to various electronic devices and gadgets, I know how utilize and make use of them. Aside from
that, I have some skill in photography and digital arts. I do graphics and photo editing with computer
applications like Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. As of now, I am currently studying web-design. I could
sense that I have the potential to master this skill soon. That is why; despite of its complexity and
sophistication, I am still very eager to learn it as a whole. I know learning is a never ending process.
There are still a lot of things in life that I must learn and understand.

improvements o learn at your own pace most effective method each course content, from top global
institutes You can add new skills or enhance existing one Why learning earn or Perish need to remain
prepared for current job or for the next job. Organization prefer people opting continuous learning adding
skill is key, having comfort zone is dangerous
 How MOOC helps  Organization may be selective while sending people for training  Organization may
have budget constraint  Organization may not think you need additional training  You may want to learn
something, but budget is constraint  You may be looking for job outside your organization, but you are
outdated to hire and cannot leave a “secured” job.  Crisis are sometime beyond anticipation- so be
prepared always.
 Sample of MOOC Providers  Apple iTunes  Canvas  Class2Go  Coursers  Course Sites  edX 

of curricula Complete the matrix on the types of curricula My Performance Criteria I will be rated along the
following: Quality of my observation and documentation Completeness and depth of analysis  Depth and
clarity of classroom observation-based reflection .Completeness, organization, clarity of portfolio My Learning
Essentials There are several types of curriculum existing in schools. Types of Curricula in Schools 1.
Recommended Curriculum These are recommendations in the form of memoranda or policy, standards and
guidelines that came from government agencies such as DepEd, CHED and TESDA and professional
organizations or international bodies such as UNESCO. 2. Written Curriculum This includes documents based
on the recommend curriculum. They come in form of course of study, syllabi, modules, books, instructional
guides among others. Example of written curriculum is teacher’s lesson plan. 3. Taught Curriculum The
teacher and the learners will put life to the written curriculum. The skill of the teacher to facilitate learning
based on the written curriculum with the aid of instructional materials and facilities is necessary. FS 4 FIELD
STUDY Learning Episode

MY REFLECTION/INSIGHT
 Supported Curriculum These are support materials that the teacher needs. This includes print
materials like books, charts, worksheets and non-print materials like PowerPoint presentations and
other electronic illustrations. It also includes the facilities like science laboratory and playground.
 Assessed Curriculum this is the curriculum that is evaluated after it has been taught. It can either be
assessment of learning, assessment as learning or assessment of learning. If the process is to find
the progress of learning, then assessed curriculum is for learning, but if it is to find out how much has
been learned, or master, then it is assessment of learning.
 Learned Curriculum These are measured by tolls in assessment, which can indicate the cognitive,
affective, and psychomotor outcomes. Learned curriculum also demonstrates higher order and
thinking and lifelong skills.
 Hidden/Implicit Curriculum This is the unwritten curriculum - peer influence, school environment,
media, parental pressures, social changes, cultural practices, natural calamities are some factors that
create hidden curriculum.
 My Performance Criteria I will be rated along the following: Quality of my observation and
documentation. Completeness and depth of analysis. Depth and clarity of classroom observation-
