Endobronchial ultrasonography (EBUS)

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Endobronchial ultrasonography is a new and relatively non-invasive prosedur that can
be used with bronchoscophy. Equipment used is EBUS scope, ultrasound profesor and needle.
Endobronchial ultrasonography is useful for identifying peripheral lung lesion. Objective:
understanding the definition of endobronchial ultrasonography, knowing and understanding the
components, Work processes, stages, diagnostik values and knowing the complication that occur
from endobronchial ultrasonography, as Wells as knowing and identifying factors that affect
endobronchial ultrasonography. Conclusion: endobronchial ultrasonography is a new modality that
can be used with bronchoscopy and is relatively non-invasive to diagnose small peripheral lung
lesion. The ultrasound system is equipped with 4.5-F intraavascular echo sensor enclosed with 6-F
tube filled with steril Water. The probe is inserted into the guide sheath and inserted through the
fiberoptic bronchoscope Work channel, proceeded to the peripheral pulmonary lesion to obtain an
image from EBUS. After localizing the lesion using EBUS imaging, the probe is removed an GS
remains in the peripheral lesion. Forcep biopsy and bronchial brush are inserted through GS to
perform pathological and cytological examination. When the lesion is not identified on the EBUS
image a double hiaged curette is inserted into the GS, and the selected bronchus by manipulatif the
curette. EBUS-GS is particularly useful for lesion measuring 20 mm that can not be detected by
fluoroscopy. Lower diagnostik Resulst in peripheral pulmonary lesion that are small in diameter < 20
mm.
