6 1897: Large 30 cents on 2nd Dowager 24 c. deep rose-red, 2 1/2 mm. spacing, a superb used
example on 1899 registered cover to the Office of Works in Shanghai tied by bold strike of
"TAKU-May 27" datestamp in black. Large "R" for registration at left and manuscript docket
number, reverse with Shanghai cds of receipt (May 31) and squared circle "Registered-
Shanghai". A marvellous and attractive cover with a very scarce single franking.

horizontal pair all tied by extremely rare "HANGCHOW" Dollar chops in black, the red
revenue pair being tied by "Shanghai" Dollar chop of transit (July 1). Obverse of cover
with 'Chine' overprinted France 25 c. black on rose appplied for onwards transmission and
a superb impression of the "HANGCHOW" Dollar chop. Magnificent and extremely rare
cover, one of only two recorded covers bearing a red revenue cancelled by the Hangchow

obverse with Germany Reichpost 20 pf. ultramarine vertical pair tied by "Shanghai" single
ring datestamp; reverse with remarkable franking of China 1897 4 c. on 4 ca. rose pink block
of four and single Large 4 c. on 3 c. red revenue all tied by "Shanghai" Dollar Chops in black
(June 6). The block with minor perf. separation between the unit of no significance and
minute closed tear in upper right stamp, the red revenue adhesive just touched by vertical
file fold, but an extremely rare and charming cover that would open well for Exhibit display.

/ Switzerland, franked by Hong Kong 1863/71 2 c. brown (2, one with minute closed tear)

reverse with "YOKOHAMA" British P.O. cds in blue, Hong Kong transit cds (Nov  11) in
black; and Sissach and Gelterkinden cds's (Dec 24). Some traces of ageing but an attractive
and very rare cover. Note: The 28 cent single rate to Switzerland was only valid between
