The Christian Life Formation Program aims for students to:

A) Read various passages from the Bible (i.e. the Gospels) in order to encounter God as Father, Son, and Holy
Spirit.
B) Achieve a basic understanding of the Catholic Church’s teaching about Jesus Christ and His redeeming
mission, as it is revealed in His Gospel and embodied in and through the Church.
C) Have developed a sense of inter-religious sensitivity through some understanding of and exposure to Non-
Christian and Non-Catholic religious traditions.
D) Begin taking more responsibility for exploring and validating their own faith, most especially its intrinsic
relation to social justice.
E) Form a more discerning Christian Conscience that would allow them to evaluate moral choices and discuss
moral issues with increasing clarity.
F) Deepen their personal experiences of God in their active participation in prayer and in various liturgies,
most especially in the Holy Eucharist.
G) Develop a profound sense of reflectivity, in which the Ignatian Spirituality permeates and blossoms.

COURSE SYLLABUS
Course Number : CLF 7
Course Title : Salvation History
A. Course Description : A formal study of the Old Testament and the faith-story of the Israelites aimed
at discovering our Christian roots. It contains inspired narratives of who God is
and how He made Himself present in the life and history of His people. This
course also includes an introductory study of the Holy Bible and how to deal
and understand the Sacerd Scripture in nurturing one’s faith and life. It is an
invitation for students to actively take part in the ongoing story of God’s work of
salvation; to become appreciative of God’s love for them; and become more
receptive to God’s call towards a mature faith relationship in the context of
their concrete personal and social life.
B. Course Objectives : The general aim of this course is to develop a living, conscious, and active
Faith through the light of instruction. Or in the words of Pope John Paul II,
“education in the faith... with a view toward initiating the hearers into the
fullness of Christian life”. For the heart of catechesis is “a Person, the person of
Jesus of Nazareth,” and thus its “definitive aim is to put people not only in
touch, but communion, in intimacy, with Jesus Christ”.

UNIT I – OUR BEGINNINGS: A NEW LOOK
LESSON 1 : HOLY BIBLE (The Source: God’s Word In The Scriptures) (3 meetings)
1.1 What is the Bible?

1.4 Getting to the Bible’s meaning

a. To recognize the Word of God speaking to us today through the inspired word of Sacred
Scriptures.

LESSON 2 : CREATION STORY (God’s Creation All Around Us)
God is my origin. God created me, and i am bound to return to God.
2.1 Religious Faith, Not Science, On Creation

2.4 God’s creation as overflow of God’s love.

true freedom as individuals and as a community.
c. To celebrate the Eucharist as a commemoration of the saving act of Christ which was
foreshadowed in the Passover event of Exodus.

I. Guidelines and Procedures
To accomplish the objectives of the course with in the context of the classroom instruction, the students are ask to
comply with the following guidelines and procedures:
1. Start of the class:
1. As soon as the teacher enters the classroom doorway, the class must stand at attention
and be ready for prayer.
2. Opening Prayer.
3. Greetings
4. 2-minute Journal Writing
5. Lesson starts.
2. End of the Class:
a. The class will say the closing prayer.
b. The teachers dismisses the class.

3. Prayer
1. Opening Prayer
i. Each member of the class will be given a chance to lead the prayer at the start of
the CLF period (with the teacher assigning him beforehand the order of the prayer
leaders).

For Catholics and students of other Christian Denominations leading the prayer:
ii. Have the proper disposition for prayer (i.e. with the Bible ready at hand students
must be standing or seated-up straight silent, and still.)
iii. Short personal prayer that follows the basic format of A.C.T.S. (Acclamation,
contrition, thanksgiving, supplication) or a prayer that may be focused on any of
these types, depending on the passage or the context of the class (i.e. Prayer of
Thanksgiving for a classmate who is celebrating her birthday).
iv. Read from the Sacred Scriptures (refer to specific instructions of your CLF
Teacher.)
v. To end the prayer, the class recites the litany: “Most Sacred Heart of Jesus (Have
mercy on us), St. Ignatius of Loyola (Pray for us), St. [class patron saint] (Pray for
us).
2. For students with Non-Christian belief (i.e. Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, and the like) they may
lead the class prayer according to their own appropriate religious tradition, but such prayer shall
still not exceed five minutes.
3. Praying the Rosary: Once a week, the class will be praying a decade of the rosary with a Catholic
Student prayer leader leading the prayer.
4. At the end of the week, the teacher leads the class in praying the Consciousness Examen.
J. CLF Materials
1. Required materials for the class must be ready at hand before the start of the period. A student
who comes unprepared with the materials will be warned for the first offense and may be
allowed to borrow from his/her seatmate. Subsequent offenses would mean penalties and
deductions to his/her conduct grade.
2. The following materials are required at all times from the student during CLF period:
i. Catholic Bible (preferably but not necessarily, New American Bible)
ii. Textbook covered with plastic
iii. Lecture Notebook
iv. Blessed Rosary (for Catholic Students)
K. Deadlines
1. Students will be given enough and reasonable time before the deadline of projects, research
work and other long assignments.
2. A deduction or penalty of 30% will be automatically given to works submitted beyond the
deadline. Late works would only be accepted within 7 school days after the set deadline (except
for excused absences properly authenticated by competent and
appropriate school authorities).
L. Grade Components
The student will be graded according to the following rubrics:
1. Per Quarter (Averaging System)
a. 75% Class Standing
b. 25% Periodical Test
2. Class Standing Components
a. 50% Tests and Quizzes
b. 35% Activities, Reflection Paper, Assignments, Projects, seatwork, etc.
c. 15% Recitation and Prayerful Disposition
M. Criteria for Grading
The student will be graded according to the following rubrics:
1. Per Quarter:
i. Periodical Test: 25%
ii. Class Standing: 75%
2. Class Standing Components:
a. Tests and Quizzes: 50%
b. Activities, Reflection Papers, Essays and Performance Tasks: 35%
c. Recitation and Prayerful Disposition: 15%
3. Criteria for Grading for different activities:
a. Reports, Projects, Reflection Papers, Essays and Performance Tasks:
i. Content: 40%
ii. Creativity and Originality: 30%
iii. Organization and Coherence: 10%
iv. Conventions of Language: 10%
(i.e. grammar and spelling)
