A Report on FEED END MODULE – Dolvi Site visit(24/5/2011)

1. The beam resting on the seat is to be welded fully all round to the plate & the gaps are to be
filled by shim plates & then welded to the beam all round. Bolt holes are to be filled up with plug
welds.

2. The fin plate connecting the column & the beam to be welded on both sides. Further the bolt
holes to the seated connection are to be filled up with plug welds if they are not going to be
bolted. NO holes are to be left idle. All the batten plates are to be filled up with weld i.e., there
shall be no gap between the closely placed plated on the column as the connection junction.
3. The gap between the seated plate & the beam shall be filled with shim plates & the welded all
round.

4. There is only one stiffening plate below two beams which is not an ideal way of structural
connection. There shall be 2 stiffeners (or Gussets) below each I-section as there are two beams.
There shall be on stiffener below the web of the beam & the battening plate shall be continuous
(shall be filled with weld.)
5. Weld shall be done all-round the fin plate. Provided bolts are not sufficient for the strength to with
stand the beam. All floor beams are to be checked for these details. Fin plated is overhanging & shall
be provided with a stiffener.

6. The top plate of the beam shall be welded to the column on top & bottom with min 8 mm weld &
the bolt holes are to be filled with plug welds ( on top & bottom Plates).
7. The top flange of the unpainted beam shall be stiffened by providing a top horizontal plate with a
stiffener connecting the column (similar to the seat provided at bottom but inversely. It’s a inverted
‘T’). Batten plates are to be closely placed & welded as a continuous plate.

8. The top flange of the unpainted beam shall be stiffened by providing a top horizontal plate with a
stiffener connecting the column (similar to the seat provided at bottom but inversely. It’s a inverted
‘T’). Batten plates are to be closely placed & welded as a continuous plate.
9. Bolts shall be fixed in position & correct size bolts shall be used to fix the base plate as per the holes
provided. Provide 4 stiffeners around bunker supporting column.

10. Provide stiffeners for the beam webs below the feeder support. Else the feeder supporting plate
will shear off.
11. The web of the beam shall be contiuously welded to the column & the bolt holes are to be filled
with plug welds. As there is very less gap between two beam, if possible provide a horizontal
plate on the top of the beam & weld to the column & beam to make it a rigid connection.

12. All the loose plates connected to the beams shall be welded al round & no gap shall be left
between the plates & the beam.
13. Beam shall be welded al round including web. A top plate shall be provided & shall be welded to
the beam flange & Column flange with a stiffener (if place is available for stiffener).

14. Column beam joints shall be fully welded with no gaps in between.
15. Column beam joints shall be fully welded with no gaps in between.

16. Provide 2 stiffeners on each side below the stub column & the stiffener shall be welded to the
beam & base plate of the stub column alround. Also base plate shall be welded with the beam
top flange (overhead weld).
17. Batten plates shall be closely welded with extra plates & the beams shall be stiffened with a
inverted ‘T’ arrangement. (Pl. refer typical details).

18. Bracings are to be connected to the column beam joint but not away from the joint. Here one of
the bracings has to be removed completely & replaced with a new member. Also the horizontal
tie member shall be connected to the joint but not to the middle of the rafter.
19. The connection has to be made rigid by providing a plate connected to the column & the web of
the rafter shall be connected to the column by providing extra lap plates to fill the gap. Pl. find
the detail of a typical rafter – column connection.

20. Inverted ‘T ‘connection shall be provided with extra batten plated of the column.
21. Inverted ‘T ‘connection shall be provided with extra batten plated of the column. Also, seated
angle shall be filled up with shim plated & welded all round.

22. A bracing is missing between two frames on top & shall be provide as marked.
23. The ties beam shall be welded al round including web. The snap shows it is just tack welded.

24. Extra Batten plates shall be provided from the base of the column ( Atleast 2 plates) else the
column would buckle.
25. As per the analysis extra bracings are required at this location which is not provided. Ensure
that’s there is a cross bracing between base plate & the 4.5M lvl platform also above this
platform near the wall.

26. Inverted ‘T ‘connection shall be provided with extra batten plated of the column.
27. Ensure the top horizontal plate on the beam is welded to the column else there is no point in
providing the plate on top of the beam
28. All the bracings marked in red are new bracings & new members to be fabricated on site & to be
erected providing new gussets & plates.
29. All the bracings marked in red are new bracings & new members to be fabricated on site & to be
erected providing new gussets & plates.
For Joint Nos 6 to 15, 20 &21, typical details are shown in the drawing attached.
Below are the bracings which are missing on the site which are in existing Staad
model. Here no new bracings are highlighted.
