Founded in 1970, Electron Energy Corporation was U.S.-based supplier, EEC is committed to meeting
one of the first commercial samarium cobalt magnet customer expectations for quality products and service
producers in the world. Our reputation was built by in a range of markets including aerospace, military,
pushing the envelope of magnet technology to the medical, electronics, instrumentation and motion control.
extremes of temperature, stability and engineered
performance. Today, we continue this tradition of
innovation in a 40,000 square-foot, state-of-the-art
facility in Landisville, PA. As a vertically integrated,

Our technical expertise,

understanding of customer
needs, and ability to precisely
control material compositions
allow us to partner with customers
as a virtual in-house source of
magnet technology.
We begin by melting custom-
designed alloys and ensure
consistent quality by controlling
every aspect of our manufacturing.
Our capabilities include:

• Designing magnets and magnet assemblies using

2D and 3D Finite Element Analysis (FEA)

• Preparing alloy by induction melting in an inert gas atmosphere

• Producing powder and pressing in a magnetic field

• Sintering, machining, magnetizing and stabilizing

• Quality inspection and laboratory testing

• Magnet system assembly

Samarium cobalt (SmCo) magnets offer

excellent performance at high temperatures.
EEC provides the widest array of magnetic
properties attainable for SmCo with the
broadest operating temperature range --
including ultra-high temperature SmCo
UHTTM -- which can operate continuously up
to 550°C. We produce SmCo permanent
magnets with maximum energy products in
excess of 30 Mega Gauss Oerstead [30
MGOe] and application-specific blends to
provide unique, customized properties for
optimized magnetic circuit designs. EEC
offers Temperature Compensated (TC)
specialty magnet materials with near zero
reversible temperature coefficient of Br and
can control the TC to the ppm level. SmCo
magnets usually do not need coating to
protect them from environment-induced
corrosion, which allows more accurate part
tolerances and simplifies use.

Neodymium iron boron (NdFeB) is the

highest energy product permanent magnet
material that is available commercially.
Our NdFeB magnets have maximum
energy products exceeding 48 Mega
Gauss Oerstead [48 MGOe]. These magnets
have a limited temperature range and
typically require a protective coating to
prevent environmental corrosion. EEC has
pioneered the development of
ToughNeoTM technology, doubling the
mechanical toughness of conventional
NdFeB, which reduces chipping and
cracking during handling and assembly.
Improved toughness might also require
less support structure for the magnet,
resulting in improved system performance,
greater durability, more compact designs
and longer operating life.

EEC also specializes in producing advanced magnet

assemblies and systems for challenging applications
such as Halbach assemblies, high-speed rotors, actuators
and many other components. We understand the
theoretical, practical and safety-related aspects of
building magnet assemblies and will work with your
engineers to design a solution that meets your
specifications. We have the expertise to maintain
extremely tight dimensional and magnetic tolerances
and complete projects on time and within budget.
State-of-the-art inspection and testing equipment ensures
the quality of every finished assembly.

EEC offers a broad range of NdFeB and SmCo bonded magnets that have several
advantages over the fully-dense sintered magnets. Most bonded magnets are
isotropic; therefore, complex magnetization patterns including radial, diametric, axial
and multi-pole orientations can be offered. These magnets are less susceptible to
handling damage and breakage because they are not as brittle as sintered magnets.
Also, machining can be reduced or eliminated because bonded magnets are molded
to near-net shape. The higher electrical resistivity typical of bonded magnets can be
helpful in some design applications.

Inspired by the U.S. Air Force’s More

Electric Aircraft initiative, EEC developed
SmCo magnets capable of operating
at temperatures up to 550°C. EEC
was awarded a US patent for this
pioneering technology.

The value of our products is evident in the

extreme conditions of space. An example
of partnering with customers on cutting-edge
applications is the innovative ion propulsion
system developed for NASA’s Deep Space I,
which uses our patented high temperature
samarium cobalt magnets. EEC magnets
also provide precision control and stability
for accelerometers and gyroscopes in the
space shuttle.

EEC magnets serve a vital role in many branches of medical

science and technology. Our magnets, with their high energy
density, are a critical component in the high-speed motors
used in hand-held, cordless power tools for surgical
applications and can easily withstand the high temperatures
of repeated autoclave sterilization.
