SKMB 4603 – NON DESTRUCTIVE TESTING (NDT)

Assignment 1 – GROUP (REPORT, PRESENTATION)

Objective:
To understand the working principles of non destructive testing (NDT) methods, discuss the importance
of NDT in each phase of a material processing or in service performance, to evaluate the NDT results and
to suggest on how to improve the performance of the component/s/system/structure.

Evaluate and critically discuss the NDT applications used in (To choose one)
(1) Aerospace industry
(2) Aircraft overhaul
(3) Automotive industry
(4) Petrochemical & gas industry
(5) Railway industry
(6) Structural applications
(7) Mining industry
(8) Power generation
(9) Shipbuilding industry
(10) Steel industry
(11) Pipe and tube manufacturing industry
(12) Agricultural engineering

Note:
(a) The assignment report must not be more than 30 pages (excluding references and
appendices). The report must be written in English.
(b) All references must be clearly cited.
(c) Relevant photos, micrographs, diagrams, sketches or drawings can be included in the report.
(d) Deadline for the Group Assignment report: March 26, 2019 (Before Mid-Term Break).
Submission of the report later than the due date will not be entertained.
(e) Group presentation will be on 8-11 April 2019
(f) Marks distribution is based on standard performance criteria of report writing/presentation;

1. Presentation of the report = 10%

2. Writing skills = 10%
3. Submission = 5%
4. Content = 45%
5. Oral presentation = 20%
6. Slides presentation = 10%
