Dear KCET aspirants,

Karnataka Common Entrance Test or KCET is a gateway to various government


and private engineering colleges of Karnataka. The Karnataka Examination
Authority (KEA) conducts the exam and formulates the rules. At stake are 55,883
seats in various engineering colleges of the state inclusive of Hyd – Kar quota
plus 9000 seats surrendered under the management quota.

INTRODUCTION
KCET is a state level engineering entrance exam conducted by Karnataka
Examination Authority (KEA) for admission to approximately 220 B.Tech colleges
of the Karnataka state. KCET includes government colleges, private colleges,
private unaided colleges and other institutes offering admission to candidates
for 47,605 seats based on their entrance exam result. KCET is organised in
offline mode having objective type questions based on PUC syllabus to judge
the candidates on their knowledge of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. The
candidates who clear KCET will be allowed to participate in the counselling and
seat allotment procedure conducted by the authorities. Candidates will have to
get their documents verified during counselling and fill choices in the order of
their preference of course and college. The seats will be allotted to candidates
in KCET on the basis of their choice filling during counselling and merit based
on result.

SALIENT POINTS
●● KCET allows candidate to get admission to various government and private engi-
neering colleges of Karnataka for B.Tech programmes.
●● For B.Tech in Agricultural Engineering, Food Technology, Dairy Technology, Food
Science & Technology, candidates will have to appear in the exam with Biology
as the third subject with Physics and Chemistry, instead of Mathematics.
●● In order to appear in KCET, candidates will have to fill the application form in
online mode.
●● The annual entrance exam of KCET is conducted in offline mode at allotted exam
or test centres.
●● Candidates belonging to Horanadu, Gadinadu and Kannadiga categories can take
up KCET in Kannada language at the Bangalore centre only.
●● However, it is important for all candidates to check the complete eligibility criteria
of KCET as prescribed by KEA and apply only if found eligible.
●● It is to be noted that before candidates appear in the exam, they should know the
complete syllabus and exam pattern of KCET.
●● The result of KCET will be announced in online mode for all the candidates.
●● Based on KCET result, a merit list will be prepared and candidates will be invited
for counselling process.
●● Seats will be allotted to candidates in the participating institutes of KCET on the

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
Candidates need to adhere to the prescribed eligibility criteria of KCET to be able
to appear in the entrance exam. The eligibility criteria contain certain parameters
like age criteria, qualifying exam scores and domicile etc which candidates will
have to produce mandatorily, otherwise they will not be considered eligible.

Salient Points of Eligibility Criteria


●● Candidates must have cleared 10+2 or any equivalent qualifying examination with
Physics and Mathematics as main subjects and English as a language subject.
●● Candidates must have studied Chemistry/ Bio-Technology/ Computer Science/
Biology as an elective subject in their class XII.
●● Candidates need to have minimum 45% aggregate scores in class 10+2, if they
are belonging to General Category.
●● Candidates need to have secured minimum 40% marks, if they belong to reserved
category i.e. SC, ST Category I and OBC (2A, 2B, 3A and 3B).
●● Candidates planning to take admission in architecture courses will have to appear
in Paper 2 of JEE Main exam or in National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA)
conducted by Council of Architecture.

EXAM CENTRES
The entrance exam of KCET will be conducted at 53 allotted test centres. Can-
didates will have to select the exam or test centres while filling the application
form. They will have to report at their allotted exam centre on the day of exam.

ADMIT CARD
KEA will release the admit card of KCET for all the eligible candidates in online
mode. Candidates will be required to download KCET admit card using their
application number and date of birth. However, it is important that candidates
check all the details like name, complete address and name of exam centre,
application number, exam date and timings etc. mentioned over KCET admit
card carefully and then download it. Candidates are advised to inform the con-
cerned authorities immediately in case of any discrepancies. After downloading,
candidates are required to preserve the valid admit card and carry it to their
allotted exam centre on the day of exam. The admit card has to be preserved
by candidates till the admission procedure gets over.

How to prepare?
In order to perform well in the KCET entrance exam, candidates are required
to know the prescribed exam pattern and syllabus of KCET. It is important that
candidates follow the syllabus and exam pattern of KCET to plan their prepara-
tion accordingly. Candidates are advised to practise the sample papers of KCET
in abundance to prepare better and produce best results in the exam.

EXAM PATTERN
The exam pattern of KCET includes total number of questions asked in the
exam along with their weightage, language, mode of exam and marking scheme.
It is important that candidates follow the exam pattern of KCET so that they can
strategise their exam preparation and perform better without missing on any
question in the exam.

Practising the sample papers of KCET becomes of utmost impor-
tance when it comes to preparing for the exam. The sample papers
will allow candidates to recognise their flaws and work on them

and time management skills while practising KCET sample papers
on regular intervals.

ANSWER KEY
KEA will first release the provisional answer key of KCET for all the
candidates who appeared in the exam. This answer key will help
candidates to verify their answers with the ones provided in the
answer key. Candidates are free to raise objections against KCET
answer key, if not satisfied. After considering all the objections, the
authorities will release the final answer key of KCET.

KCET RESULT
The exam conducting body, KEA will announce the result of KCET in online
mode. Candidates will have to use their registration number to check and
download KCET result. In case, candidates are not satisfied with the details
mentioned on the result, they can challenge it.

The result of KCET will contain the following details:


●● Overall and subject-wise scores

●● Answer sheets of the candidates disclosing their responses marked

●● Merit list prepared on the basis of KCET marks secured

●● Qualifying exam scores of the candidates

●● Salient features of Result

●● Candidates can challenge the result of KCET within 3 days of its announcement.

●● Any objections related to marks in KCET entrance exam will not be entertained.

●● Objections can also be raised for missing rank on KCET result sheet, version code

of question paper wrongly marked and qualifying exam marks.


●● Those candidates whose results have been withheld for want of qualifying exami-

nation marks will have to submit a photocopy of their qualifying exam marks card
either in person or through speed post to the KEA.

COUNSELLING AND SEAT


ALLOTMENT
KCET counselling will be conducted in both online and offline mode for all
the qualified candidates of the entrance exam. Candidates need to get their
documents verified, register themselves, fill their preferred college and course
choices and get a seat allotted on the basis of their merit and choice filling in
the participating institutes.
