VIBRATION AND SHOCK TEST REPORT

SAFETY RELAY TYPE DPX-257 FS

1 INTRODUCTION

This report describes the Vibration and Shock tests performed in a Safety Relay (24 VCA/VCC), at
the Integration and Testing Laboratory - LIT, of INPE, in accordance with specification provided by the
Customer [(a) Vibration tests according to IEC 60068-2-6; (b) Shock tests according to IEC 60068-2-27].
The tests were performed in presence of a Customer’s representative (Digimec team) and the technical
requirements, the test sequence and the results are presented in this document.

The series of tests was applied along the three main axes of the test item and was completed
successfully, without any major occurrence.

As defined by the Customer, all the tests were applied to the sample in powered condition
(functional safety test). Functional checks were performed by the Digimec’s representative and,
according to his information, the equipment remained always under normal operating conditions.

In this document the words: test item(s), test sample(s) (unit(s)), specimen(s) are used with the
same meaning to identify the Equipment Under Test (EUT).

2 PURPOSE OF THE TESTS

The vibration and shock tests were performed to determine if equipment were constructed to
withstand the expected vibration and shock stresses, and to ensure that the service vibration and shock
environment would not produce performance degradations or malfunctions, cracks, structural damage
or loose parts after being subjected to the test conditions outlined in Section 7.

7 TEST CONDITIONS

7.1 TEST SPECIFICATION

A copy of the test request is presented in Appendix A. A summary of the general conditions of

7.2 REFERENCE AXES

The three mutually perpendicular axes of the tested item were defined as follows (see photos in
Appendix C):
• X axis: Longitudinal (parallel to the largest dimension of the relay);
• Y axis: Transverse (perpendicular to the X and Z axes);
• Z axis: Vertical (normal to the mounting surface of the relay).

7.3 MOUNTING OF THE TESTED ITEM

The tested unit was attached on the adapter device (provided by the laboratory) via a segment of
a TS-35 DIN rail (steel), simulating its normal conditions of assembly.

First of all, the segment of the DIN rail was rigidly mounted on a structural angle bracket via three
M6 screws and washers and then, the assembly thus formed was fixed on mechanical devices (head
plate and/or cube adapter) provided by the laboratory, in one of the directions of interest. The test
sample was then fastened on the DIN rail by its normal means of attachment.

The Appendix C shows some pictures taken from the tested item when mounted on the vibration
testing system.

7.4 CONTROL ACCELEROMETER

One pickup was used as control accelerometer (identified as ACE01), installed on the mechanical
adapter provided by the laboratory.

The Test Control Data Sheets (Table B1.2) presented in the Appendix B shows the list of the
sensors used in the tests and their main characteristics. In Appendix C it is presented some pictures of
the control accelerometer used in the tests.

7.5 FUNCTIONAL TEST

The equipment was tested powered by a switched power supply unit provided by Digimec. The
functional check was performed by visual inspection of the state of the LEDs (2x green and 1x orange)
located at the top of the relay which, under normal conditions, should remain continuously light up.

8 DEVELOPMENT OF TEST

The series of tests was accomplished in six test steps numbered and identified, each one, as a
particular test, as shown in Appendix B. For each test direction (Z,Y,X), it was first performed the
vibration test and then, the shock test. All of tests were completed successfully without any major
occurrence.

By visual inspection of the sample during and after completing the tests in each axis, there was no
indication of external mechanical damage, cracks or loose parts. The functional checks of the safety
relay during the tests were done by the representative of the Customer and the results are not included
in this document, because they are not part of the scope of contracted services. According to
information of Digimec team, through the inspections carried out, it was verified that the relay remained
always under normal operating conditions.

9 TEST RESULTS AND COMMENTS

The series of vibration and shock tests was performed according to the test specification
presented in Section 7 and was completed successfully without any major occurrence.

The sine vibration tests records represent the peak acceleration [g] of the control signal in function
of the frequency [Hz] and the ones of the shock tests, the peak acceleration [g] of the control signal in
function of time [ms] for the last positive and last negative pulses effectively applied in each test.

By visual inspection, before and after each test, no kind of external mechanical damage, cracks or
loose parts was detected in the test sample. Further inspections and additional evaluation tests (if any)
after completing of the series of mechanical tests will be under the responsibility of Customer.

The results and comments presented herein are restricted for the tested unit referenced in Section
4 and for the specified test conditions outlined in Section 7.

It is presented in Appendix A the copy of the test request and, in Appendix B, the test control data
sheets including the test sequence summary and the instrumentation control sheet and, in Appendix C
some pictures of the tested item when mounted in the vibration testing system, and of the
instrumentation.

Roberto,

Ficamos no aguardo.
