REPERTORY PHILIPPINES

In1967 five actors, Zeneida “Bibot” Amador, Carmen “Baby” Barredo, Leo Martinez, and
Tony and Monica Mercado, fueled with passion and talent, set up Repertory Philippines
Foundation. The vision for the company was to create and develop an interest in culture
and the arts in the country; build a theater industry that would enable talented Filipinos—
actors, directors, producers, designers, technicians— to work at what they loved; and to
make theater-going a social habit in the Philippines.

Zenaida A. Amador
Zeneida A. Amador was its President and Artistic Director until her death in 2005 .

It is the only theater company that produces western plays – both modern and the
classics – non-stop throughout the year except for the summer months when attention turns
to Performing Arts workshops and their corresponding showcase productions.

At present REP has one regular season of three plays. Classics, comedies, dramas and
sometimes a small scale musical are a regular part of each season.
In line with this vision, Repertory Philippines Foundation, Inc., a professional theater company,
has for 51 years consistently produced plays and musicals of universal interest in English and
has set standards of artistry for both production and performance in the Philippines. From its
modest beginnings, it has become the most well-known and respected theater company in
the Philippines.

The roster of its productions include such titles as A Little Princess, Agnes Of God, and Beauty
and the Beast.

A Little Princess
If you grew up in the '90s, you may be familiar with
the Filipino film adaptation Sarah, ang Munting
Prinsesa starring Camille Prats or even the dubbed
anime series. The year-end musical production of A
Little Princess is a completely different experience as it
ends the company's 2016 season. The well-loved
musical written by Brian Crawley with music by
Andrew Lippa is directed by Dexter Santos.

Beauty and the Beast

After a successful run in 2004, Repertory
Philippines brings back Beauty and the
Beast for its Ch ildren's Theater
production in 2017. Written by Peter del
Valle and John Ahearn with music by
Michael Valenti and lyrics by Elsa Rael,
this musical follows a story we're already
too familiar with. Cursed by a wicked
enchantress, Prince Adam turns into a
hideous beast and will only be freed
when he learns to love and be loved in
return. A beautiful village girl enters a
mysterious castle and gets to know the
cold-hearted Beast. It is directed by Joy
Virata.
Agnes of God
This play by John Pielmeir tells the story of Sister Agnes,
a novice nun who later gives birth. She insists that it was
an immaculate conception. Agnes of God is directed
by Bart Guingona.
