is the acne in their faces. Researcher made a product that will surely help those teenagers in their
problem. Using Activated Charcoal, researcher made a Face mask. The ingredients used in making
Face mask are very suitable in removing acne and will smoothen the face.

The purpose of this study is to introduce a product that will help us in our daily lives.
Activated Charcoal Face mask will help us, especially the Teenagers, to be more confident facing
people. Also, to make a product that is a non-chemical product. Today, we all dependent in those or
we are believer in those chemical product that we might help us. Activated Charcoal is totally
different, because it’s a non-chemical product that will surely help you. Lastly, to make a ‘new’
product that will surely afford by everyone.

This study used experimentation to test the effectiveness of the Activated Charcoal Face
mask.

There are many benefits we can have in Activated Charcoal, not only Face mask but also we
cant try many products using it. Like using it as a toothpaste, there’s a proof that it can whiten the
teeth. Also, there are many benefits in Activated Charcoal Face mask. Like having soft and smooth,
removing pores and blackheads and can reduces the oiliness of the face. But even we have the proof
to consider, we should be more careful upon using it.

INTRODUCTION
Charcoal is a certain kind of half-burnt wood. People use charcoal for fire because its burn
hotter and cleaner than wood(less smoky) and more slowly. Your house or workplace stays cleaner.
You need charcoal to melt copper and tin or to make bronze too.

Charcoal is mostly pure carbon, called char, made by cooking wood in a low oxygen
environment, a process that can take days and burns off volatile compounds such as water, methane,
hydrogen, and tar. Charcoal helps us in many way, and it can help us to our body, especially in our
face. The most popular product made in charcoal that can help us to solve our problem in our face is
what they called the Activated Charcoal.

Though we may not immediately associate Charcoal with healthy skin or skin-care products,
Activated Charcoal boasts beauty benefits for skin by drawing oil, dirt and other harmful substances
from clogged pores due to its adsorption powers.

Activated carbon, also called activated charcoal, is a form of carbon processed to have small, low-
volume pores that increase the surface area available for adsorption or chemical reactions. Activated is
sometimes substituted with active.
Due to its high degree of micro porosity, just one gram of activated carbon has a surface area in
excess of 3,000 m2 (32,000 sq ft), as determined by gas adsorption. An activation level sufficient for
useful application may be attained solely from high surface area; however, further chemical treatment
often enhances adsorption properties.
Activated carbon is usually derived from charcoal and is sometimes utilied as bio char. Those
derived from coal and coke are referred as activated coal and activated coke respectively. This activated
charcoal can help us not only in our body, it can help us in other way. Like curing some diseases like
treating poison and in overdosing.

Nowadays, there are many some medicines does not have an effect on the user. Instead, its
having side effect or bad effect to the user. We all know that those medicine have pure chemical
substance, so basically, we should not trust on it fully. Even others tried it, we should still be careful
upon using it. This study will introduce a product that can help us in our daily life. Today, teenagers
are always conscious on what they are look, especially, what their face look. This study will propose a
product that will surely help human problems, and will not destroy the health of the people. The goal
of this study is to tell people that a ‘product’ can make a product again. Also, this study helps people
to use the product that is not pure chemical medicine, that herbal medicine is better.

The product, Activated Charcoal, is made up of charcoal which a lightweight black carbon
and ash residue hydrocarbon produced by removing water and either volatile constituents from animal
and vegetation substances. Activated charcoal is made especially for medical use. To produce
activated charcoal, manufacturers heat common charcoal in the presence of a gas that causes the
charcoal to develop many internal spaces or “pores”. These pores help activated charcoal trap
chemicals.

Definition of terms

 To introduce a product that may help us in our daily lives.

 To make a product that is a non-chemical product.
 To make a ‘new’ product that will surely afford by everyone.

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

The study entitled “Activated Charcoal beads- effective adsorbent for inflammatory
cytokine”, reported in the International Journal of Artificial Organs, demonstrated that activated
charcoal beads, used in monolithic columns, were an effective method for removing inflammatory
cytokines directly from the blood. These naturally produced blood factors are part of a healthy
immune system are part of a healthy part in triggering the body’s immune response to disease. But
they can easily reach beyond their healthy function and become dangerous. Microbeads, developed
from a polymer-derived activated charcoal, were incorporated into blood-circulating system and
demonstrated “good removal of the inflammatory cytokines IL-8 (100% removal),IL-6 (80% removal
and TNF (51% removal).

On the other hand, the article entitled “Top 10 Activated Charcoal Uses and Benefits”, stated
that Activated Charcoal is a potent natural treatment used to trap toxins and chemicals in the body,
allowing them to be flushed out so the body doesn’t reabsorb them. It’s made from a variety of
sources, but when used for natural healing, it’s important to select activated charcoal made from
coconut shells or other natural sources. Here are the top 10 Activated Charcoal uses:

 Whitens Teeth- it works to whiten teeth by adsorbing plaque and microscopic tidbits that stain
teeth.
 Alleviates Gas and Bloating-it works by binding the gas-causing by products in foods that
cause discomfort.
 Treats Alcohol Poisoning and helps prevent Hangovers-
 Mold Cleansing
 Water Filtration
 Emergency Toxin Removal
 Skin and Body Health
 Anti-Aging
 Reduces High Cholesterol
 Digestive Cleanse

Activated Charcoal is sometimes used to help treat a drug overdose or a poisoning. When you
take activated charcoal, drugs and toxins can bind to it. This helps rid the body of unwanted
substances. Charcoal is made from coal, wood or other substances. It becomes “activated charcoal”
when high temperatures combine with a gas or activating agent to expand its surface area. People
takes activated charcoal to manage a poisoning or overdose. When using along with other treatments,
activated charcoal may be effective for an acute poisoning. But it is not useful in some cases,
including poisoning from:

 Cyanide
 Lithium
 Alcohol
 Iron Tablets

An article entitled “Black Magic: the Benefits and Uses of Activated Charcoal” stated that
has been around for thousand of years. It was even used by Hippocrates and Pliny in their day.
Activated Charcoal derives its name from the process of taking the charcoal which result from the
activity of controlled charring of the starting material (usually Willow Bark, aka Salix alba), and
subjecting it to an oxidizing gas, i.e. air or stream, at elevated temperatures (which enhances the
absorptive power of the charcoal by developing an extensive internal network of fine pores in the
material). This majestical substance helps to heal all colon diseases and greatly benefits the intestines.
Carbon will greatly counteract flatulence (gas) and help to eradicate foul odors in the colon or
intestinal tract.

Initial information about activated charcoal’s adsorbent properties were described as early as
the 1700’s, with the first clinical applications already occurring a century later. Michel Betrand, Pierre
Touery, William Hort and Sir Alfred Barring Garrod were responsible for some of the earliest studies
regarding activated charcoal. Most research during this era discovered activated charcoal’s potential
in counteracting clinical effects of poisoning in animals and humans. In particular, it was reported that
Touery swallowed a lethal dose of poison called strychnine in front of his colleagues at the French
Academy of Medicine. He eventually survived because he also drank activated charcoal, proving that
it can counteract poison.

According to Alexandra Early, Activated Charcoal draws bacteria, poisons, chemicals, dirt
and other micro-particles to the surface of skin, helping you to achieve a flawless complexion and
fight acne. Charcoal is not metabolized, adsorbed or absorbed by the body, but it can used to treat
some poisonous bites and disinfect some wounds. Activated Charcoal powder is proven to adsorb
thousands of times its own mass in harmful substances, which makes it a popular ingredient in facial
masks.

METHODOLOGY
The researcher used ingredients and procedure to make the Activated Charcoal Face Mask.
Here are the ingredients needed:

Ingredients:

 1 Tsp. Bentonite Clay

 1 Tsp. Activated Charcoal
 2 Tsp. Water
 ½ Tsp. raw Honey
 1 drop each tea tree and lavender essential oil(optional)

Benefits of the ingredients in making Activated Charcoal:

Bentonite Clay- comes from aged volcanic ash sediment, and is used ti attract, trap and remove toxins
from the body. Its the perfect addition to a cleansing face mask, as once mixed with water it will help
to remove any impurities on the skin. On its own it can be a little drying, which is one reason why the
raw honey included in the recipe too.

Raw Honey- it can naturally sweeten desserts, soothe a burn, and is antibacterial. It’s useful for a face
mask as it softens and soothes skin, and is antibacterial for anyone suffering from acne or blemishes.

Charcoal- is widely used in emergency settings if internal poisoning is suspected for its ability to
absorb toxins. In fact, charcoal is “estimated to reduce absorption of poisonous substances up to
60%.” When applied to the face, charcoal will help to absorb toxins and impurities on the skin.

Essential oils- can be a helpful addition to DIY skincare recipes and play a variety of roles. This
recipe uses Tea Tree and Lavender essential oil in particular for their ability to purify the skin. Tea
tree is commonly used for acne because of its antimicrobial properties. Lavender is commonly
recommended for skin health. The overall concentration is low and there’s only ½ drop each essential
oil per face mask, but its enough to get results.

How to make a Charcoal Mask:

1. In a small glass bowl, add the water and essential oil.

2. Sprinkle the bentonite clay over the top of the water mixture in the bowl. Allow it to absorb
for about the rest of the ingredients. This makes the mixture easier to combine.
3. Use a small rubber spatula to mash and mix everything together. The clay will want to stay
lumpy, so this takes a few minutes to mix thoroughly. You’ll have enough mixture here for 2
face masks.
4. Once your mask is mixed, apply it liberally to your face. Allow it to dry, about 10 minutes,
before washing off with soap and warm water.

Note: This mask is meant to be used in one use and will nit store well, as it does not contain
preservatives.

To test the product, Activated Charcoal Face mask, we have 5 participants or who will try the
product. The experimentation to these participants have permission to them and they are willing to try
it. But those participants requested that their named and identity will not revealed.

This data collected by researching information in the Internet which have a big help to this
Study. This study is a qualitative research which has lesser participants. The researcher used
experimentation to make the product and test if the product is effective when it comes to the problem
that will help it to dissolve. Also, the researcher observe the mainly problem of the people, especially
to the teenagers nowadays. As the result of the observation, researchers come up with this product and
study.
RESULT AND DISCUSSION

The researcher used experimentation to test if the product is effective. The result of the
experimentation was very successful. The researchers used some people to test if the product is
effective.

1st attempt: After the researchers mixed the ingredients, they try to
apply it to the nose.
CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION

Conclusion

Everyone wants a fresh, glowing complexion. who wouldn’t? Impurities, dirt and air pollution
can all take a toll on skin daily, making it appear dull and irritated. That’s where Activated Charcoal
comes in. This all natural wonder, which is free of any chemicals.

Activated Charcoal Face masks are used in the cosmetic industry especially for oily or acne
prone types of skin because of the Activated Charcoal’s ability to draw impurities out of the skin
much more effectively than a lot of other cleansing ingredients. It’s used as a beauty treatment that
contains Activated Charcoal and other ingredients to help your complexion look and feel better.

Activated Charcoal has many benefits for your skin including the ability to:

 Deep cleanse pores, removing dirt, debris and oil

 Reduce oiliness
 Diminish blackheads
 Minimize skin inflammation
 Make pores smaller
 Help prevent acne breakouts by removing excess oil and toxins
 Smooth skin
 Even the skin tone.

Charcoal is “activated” after being infused with oxygen. Oxygenation creates a highly-porous
surface that increases the stuff’s ability to absorb toxins, like the dangers of vaping. It leaves skin
gloriously-clean and fresh while combating acne and other skin problems. Rid pores of impurities and
excess oil when you use charcoal face masks.

Recommendation

We can say that this product is effective but this product can’t solve those diseases in the face
which is needed to be threaten by the professional. This is only for acne removal, reducing oiliness
etc. Don’t use this product for medication. This product is only for the beauties of the face not for the
diseases. Don’t use this everyday because instead of achieving beauty you might end up suffering
from the itchy. Not because the experimentation of this study is successful, we cant easily consider it
very effective. If you know that you have allergies to those ingredients in making Activated Charcoal
Face masks, don’t try to use it. Even though we have the proof that this product is effective, use it
carefully.
