Grading:
SWOT Analysis
Strengths:
Most of the pupils have recognized the tenses in the text and categorized them
correctly. The understanding of the text has also proven to be done correctly. The
difficulty of the items was medium and most of the marks were above the average.
Weaknesses:
The second item that required formulating questions based on the given answers has
demonstrated that at least half of them still keep the past tense form of the verb with
the auxiliary did. Also they tend to use present tenses when formulating questions
even though the text gives clear clues as to what tense must be used. Some of them
prefer to use past tense simple in all sentences when they are required to insert the
correct tense into the context.
Opportunities:
During the test correction, the pupils admitted that they made mistakes from lack of
attention. After more lessons of consolidation, they will be able to see the difference
between past tense simple and present perfect simple.
Threats:
Three pupils have serious lacks in their level of understanding English language. They
won’t be able to recover the lost ground due to their inability to grasp the importance
of knowing this language and its usefulness later on.
Pupils have a good capacity to assimilate new knowledge and to improve their
proficiency in properly using English. Most of them are able to distinguish the two
tenses that were evaluated and to use them in sentences. The average, above the
medium, is satisfactory, yet the level of difficult was not high, so the expectations of
better result were higher.

Remedial measures:
The teacher intends to diversify the type of exercises that pupils need to practice
(matching, fill in, charting, translations, compositions) and to focus more on grammar
structures. The final evaluation will be postponed until most of the pupils are able to
correctly use the Past tense simple and Present perfect simple.
