Meaningful Connections
2019 REINA DE LA FERIA DE LAS FLORES, MONTANA ROWTON-KIOLBASSA
Montana Rowton-Kiolbassa is a Junior at The University of Texas
at Austin pursuing a major in Journalism. Montana is pursuing
goals of writing for a major publication, ideally like the National
Geographic Magazine, or such. Montana is a 2015 graduate
of Winston Churchill High School. She was a member of the
Environmental Club and the Varsity Speech and Debate team. She
competed on the District, State, and National levels and was a
five-time Texas-State Finalist. Montana was also recognized in the
San Antonio Express-News for being the first four-time National
qualifier for speech and debate from Winston Churchill High School.
She hopes to use her knowledge from speech and debate to help
communicate to others, her love of education and the important
impact it can have on your life in helping you to succeed.

Montana is following in the footsteps of her godfather, Ronald


Gabriel, who reigned as the Rey Feo LVlll in 2006, and her
loving Papa, Art Kiolbassa, who served as his Night Minister.
Countless hours of fundraising over the years alongside
her parents has set her on the path to be the next Reina
de la Feria de las Flores in 2019 for LULAC Council #2.

Montana has always connected with others in a genuine way. She


thrives in helping others to become the best versions of themselves.
She has spent time working with others in the Big Brothers/Big Sisters
program and has inspired children of all ages to excel in school and
to always stay humble and kind. She is a leading example of how to
selflessly love and to give to others. Montana hopes that through
her service as Reina de la Feria de las Flores, she can encourage
San Antonio youth to lead an impactful life through pursuing higher
education and to remind others to always stay humble and kind,
in and out of the classroom. She aspires to do so, through the
awarding of the Tom Morton Sandoval Parent/Child Scholarships.

Her spirit of volunteerism is evident by the hundreds of hours she has

donated to social programs such as Habitat for Humanity, Big Brothers/
Big Sisters, American Red Cross Association, Wounded Warrior Project,
the Humane Society, and church mission trips. Montana also advocates
for sustainable solutions in third-world countries as a member of Green
Empowerment and the Greenpeace Foundation. She also promotes
for the survival of the Marine Ecosystem, national and international
forest environments as a member of ProjectAWARE Foundation,
Shark Savers Foundation, Oceana, and the Nature Conservancy.
