Chief Executive Officer March 15, 2019

Dr. Cheryl Pruitt

Board of Directors On July 1, 2018, Chicago Virtual Charter School converted to a self-managed school after
Officers 2018-2019 being managed by a for-profit company for the past 12 years. The change was necessary and
long overdue. This school year, CPS placed the school on both financial and academic
President
Matt Lewellen probation based on the previous years’ academic and financial performance while under for-
profit management.

We are very proud to say Chicago Virtual Charter School is now in its best financial position
Secretary in many years. We are on track to meet and exceed each and every CPS financial
Kenneth Speller accountability requirement. Change and transition are always difficult in the beginning.
There are some bumps along the way but we have made great progress in just nine months.

Dr. Seth Harkins Much needed curriculum changes were also made aimed at improving the academic
LaShonda Milton performance of our students. Additionally, we are demanding more accountability from our
teachers and staff than may have been required in the past. We want the very best teachers
at our school who are dedicated to our mission. We have increased teacher salaries. We also
have reduced administrative costs that were previously over $1 million .

Supporting the Board and CEO lead the way with all this is our Strategy and Compliance
Officer, Angela Richardson-Bryant. She is an experienced labor and employment lawyer,
former CVCS parent/Learning Coach, former volunteer Board Member and Board President
at Chicago Virtual Charter School. Her professional expertise, extensive and distinctive
institutional knowledge of our school and dedication to our mission made her the best
person for us to hire to guide us through this one-year transition period.

Richardson’s salary and expenses are very reasonable for the duties and services she
performs. With technology today, it is not uncommon for employees to work remotely in the
workplace. Chicago Virtual Charter School looks forward to making more improvements and
providing a unique educational model that can accommodate a very diverse population of
Chicago’s children especially those most at risk.
