I OBJECTIVES:

At the end of 60 minutes period, at least 85% of the students should be able to:

1. state the importance and function of the circulatory system in the human
body.
2. describe the different parts of the circulatory system and its function
3. differentiate the different types of circulation

II SUBJECT MATTER

A. Topic: Circulatory System, Its Parts and Function, Types of Circulation

C. Materials: Manila Paper, Chalkboard, Print-outs, Textbook
D. Concepts:

Essential Concept: Circulatory System- the life support structure that nourishes your
cells with nutrients from the food you eat and oxygen from the air you breathe. It
functions with other body systems to deliver different materials in the body. It circulates
vital elements such as oxygen and nutrients. At the same time, it also transports wastes
away from the body.
Sub concepts:
Parts of the Circulatory System
1. Heart – pumps the blood throughout the body
2. Blood vessel – carries the blood throughout the body
 Arteries - carry oxygenated blood away from the heart to the cells,
tissues and organs of the body
 Veins - carry deoxygenated blood to the heart
 Capillaries - the smallest blood vessels in the body, connecting the smallest
arteries to the smallest veins; the actual site where gases and nutrients are
exchanged
3.Blood – carries the materials throughout the body
Types of Circulation
1. Pulmonary Circulation-movement of blood from the heart, to the lungs, and
back to the heart
2. Coronary Circulation- movement of blood through the tissues of the heart
3.Systemic Circulation- Movement of blood from the heart to the rest of the body,
excluding the lungs

E. Teaching Strategies/Techniques:
 Discussion, Deductive Method, Cooperative Learning.

III PROCEDURE:
Teacher’s Activity Students’ Activity

1. Pre-Activity

Good Afternoon Class. Good Afternoon.

Let us pray. (Assigned Student will lead the prayer)
(The teacher will ask the students to
pick-up pieces of dirt, turn on the
lights and the electric fan)
Who’s absent today? (Students will answer.)

Before we start, let us have a recall

about your lesson last time.

What was your lesson last time? The Respiratory System, Sir!

That’s right. Thank you. Now, who Sir, the respiratory system is composed of parts such as
can tell anything you learned about the nose, mouth, pharynx, trachea, bronchi, bronchioles,
the respiratory system? and alveoli.

(Students will answer.)

Okay. Very good. Thank you.
Anyone else?

2. Motivation

Now, before we proceed to our

lesson let’s have an activity first.

Group yourselves into two. The students will participate.

Mechanics: A list of words will be
presented and you are to give the
word that can be associated with
these.

Example:

Wordlist: Answer: snow

1.storm snowstorm
2.ball snowball
3.cap snowcap
4.fall snowball
5.flake snowflake

Are you ready? Yes, Sir.

(The teacher will continue the The Students will participate.
activity.)

3. Lesson Presentation
Okay. Now there are three words
from the activity we had a while
ago that are important in our topic
for today. Now, who can give me Sir, Heart, Blood, and Body.
what they were?
That’s right. Very good. So, what do The Circulatory System Sir.
you think is our lesson for today?

Very well.
Now, the Circulatory System is one
of the most important system in the
human body because it nourishes
the cells with oxygen and nutrients.
It can be compared
to a complex arrangement of
highways, avenues and lanes
connecting all the cells together into
a neighborhood. Sequentially, the
community of cells sustains the
body to stay alive. Another name
for the circulatory system
is the cardiovascular system.

The Circulatory System has three

major parts namely, the heart, the
blood vessel and the blood. The
heart pumps the blood throughout
the body while the blood vessels
carry the blood throughout the
body. There are three main types of
blood vessels: arteries, veins and
capillaries. Arteries carry
oxygenated blood away from the
heart to the cells, tissues and organs
of the body. Veins carry
deoxygenated blood to the heart and
capillaries, the smallest blood
vessels in the body, connecting the
smallest arterioles to the smallest
veins, are the actual site where
gases and nutrients are exchanged.
There are three types of circulation
in the body. These are pulmonary
circulation, coronary circulation and
systemic circulation. Pulmonary
circulation refers to movement of
blood from the heart, to the lungs,
and back to the heart. Coronary
circulation refers to the movement
of blood through the tissues of the
heart while Systemic circulation
refers to the movement of blood
from the heart to the rest of the
body excluding the lungs.

B. Abstraction

Now, to check if you really listened, I’m

going to ask you some questions. Alright? Yes, Sir.

What is the other name for the circulatory Cardiovascular System.

sytem?
What part of the circulatory system carries Blood vessels
the blood throughout the body?

What are the three types of blood vessels? Arteries, Veins and Capillaries.
What kind of blood do the veins carry? Deoxygenated blood.
What do we mean by deoxygenated blood? It carries no oxygen.
C. Analysis

You know now that the blood carries

oxygen and nutrients throughout the body.
Where do you think the nutrients came It came from the small intestine of the digestive system.
from specifically?
How about waste? Do you think the blood Yes. Sir.
also carries waste?
What waste? Carbon dioxide and urea.

D. Application
Activity: Using the given graphic organizer,
fill in the missing parts, description, and
functions to complete the entire concept.
