Chapter 1

Introduction

Grocery store nowadays are still using the old system which is the manual process of Inventory and

Sales. In a manual system, workers will take and write down the product of a customer’s order in a sheet of

paper, then at the end the cashier will calculate the total amount of the customers ordered item. Sometimes it

will end to wrong calculation result.

A sales and inventory system is a software-based business solution used to simultaneously

track sales activity and inventory. Manufacturers and trade resellers can both benefit from a thorough

solution,where single transaction entry records necessary details on the customer, products purchased,

price and date while also updating inventory levels.

Objectives of the Project

The main goal of the study is to design and develop a sales and inventory system of a

supermarket with the following:

1. To list down the processes used in the existing grocery store in terms of sales and inventory.

2. To determine the problem encountered in the current process used in the grocery store.

3. To enumerate and discuss the processes that are need to systematized to achieve faster and more

reliable and flexible inventory and POS service system.

Significance of the Project

The purpose of the study is to develop inventory system and POS service of the grocery store.

Particularly, it sought to answer the following questions:

1. What are the old processes used in the existing grocery store in terms of sale and inventory?

2. What are the problems encountered in the current process used in the grocery store?

3. What are the process need to be systematized to achieved for convenient grocery store?

Purpose and Description of the Project

The proposed system aims to meet the demand and even the need of grocery in the terms of

inventory. The mission has driven the business to look for innovative yet expensive approaches to deliver

quality service.

Scope and Limitation of the Project

The study will focus on the development of an inventory system and Point of Sale Service for

grocery store. The study focuses in inventory control management, providing a GUI that used to input

data in the following transaction such as purchasing orders, recording of items and creating database for

the items. It provides a record to the user for maintenance and security purposes.

Development Tools

The researchers have used the software Java and MySQL in creating the system with the

use of Barcode Scanner as the system’s hardware. The researchers have ensured that the code are correct

and will result the expected output without errors and interruptions and if the system meets the client

needs and expectation. The system developed by the researchers sis designed for grocery used.

Software Features

The developed system has different features that will provide accurate and secure records of sales
and list of products in terms of process.

Admin. manages the adding of stocks, updating the inventory, and determining the users of thesystem.

Customers. have the benefits of the printed receipts right after purchasing an item.

Future Researcher. would see the possibilities of upgrading the system.
