ADMIRAL’S MESSAGE
We are now in the season of Lent, preparing for the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. There are three things the Church
says we should do during Lent: Pray, Fast, and Give or share. As Knights we are very good at giving. We do it all year long. The first
principal of our order is charity. We donate to those in need, and we share our time and our talents with the Church and community.
As a group we are also prayerful. Deacon Monte suggested that we try to be closer to God during Lent by praying more often. We
might say the Rosary every day. Some people go to daily mass or the Stations of the Cross to move closer to God. Many parishes have
Lenten retreats. Try to participate. Fasting – we are not very good at fasting. Just watch us at the repasts at our meetings. We should
follow the Lenten rules for fasting and abstinence. It’s not that difficult. Pope Francis has another suggestion for fasting during lent.
You may have seen this before, but it bears repeating.
Fast from hurting words and say kind words.
Fast from sadness and be filled with gratitude.
Fast from anger and be filled with patience.
Fast from pessimism and be filled with hope.
Fast from worries and have trust in God.
Fast from complaints and contemplate simplicity.
Fast from pressure and be prayerful.
Fast from bitterness and fill your hearts with joy.
Fast from selfishness and be compassionate to others.
Fast from grudges and be reconciled.
Fast from words and be silent so you can listen.
Following Pope Francis’ idea of fasting during Lent will also make us more prayerful and giving.
If you haven’t done so yet, try following BEST LENT EVER (dynamiccatholic.com/bestlentever).
Do something special for Lent.
Faithful Admiral, Sir Knight Mike Tully
