When I observed at fairfield elementary school, I felt like I learned a lot, but not in an academic

way. The first class I observed was in the middle of music class, so I got to see how they all
reacted to playing instruments. I noticed that some students really enjoyed band and others
didn’t at all. Some struggled to read music which wasn’t surprising but some knew how to read it
really well which was extremely surprising considering it can take a while to get used to it. Some
played beautiful sounds and others played not so beautiful sounds. Either way it was a nice
chance to see how different students reacted to doing things out of their comfort zone. My
second class I observed I saw a cool social technique. They went in a circle and shared their
thoughts on a question. Would you rather go to an amusement park or go to a water park.
Whenever one person shared something, if someone felt the same way, instead of calling it out,
they would hold up a gesture such as two fingers up pointing at themselves to signify that they
felt the same way. It was really interesting seeing a teacher use this method for something as
trivial as a discussion but was extremely helpful for keeping students on track and to stop
outbursts of students. All in all it was a nice opportunity to see different methods not just in an
academic way.
