JOB DESCRIPTION

Position Title: Tax Associate


Reports To: Financial Reporting & Tax Manager
Dated: October 2016
Direct Reports: Nil

Purpose of the Position


To ensure that the Company’s tax compliance and reporting obligations are met in an accurate,
timely and complete manner.

Key Result Area: Accounting and Compliance


Ensure full and prudent compliance on required tax compliance and reporting, as well as fulfilling
accounting responsibilities as required
Tasks: Measurement of effectiveness:

 IRD Compliance (primary)  Timely, accurate, complete and prudent


 Income Tax fulfillment of tax obligations
 GST
 FBT  Timeliness, accuracy and completeness of
 WHT all work done

 IRD Compliance (backup)  Balanced and explained reconciliations


 PAYE completed within set timeframes

 Management and reconciliation of tax


accounts on monthly basis (backup to
PAYE accounts)

 Quarterly or monthly income tax


calculations for management accounts

 Other as arising
Key Result Area: Reporting
Provide accurate, timely, complete and valued internal and external reporting as required on the
tax position of the Company, thereby assisting management to make fully informed decisions and
complete their fiduciary obligations.
Tasks: Measurement of effectiveness:

 Assist in preparing interim and Annual  Timely, accurate submission as per set
reports including preparing all tax timeframes
calculations and notes to the financial
statements

Key Result Area: Tax strategy, planning and forecasting


Provide accurate, timely, complete and valued information on tax strategy and tax implications of
the activities of the Company, thereby assisting management to make fully informed decisions
and complete their fiduciary obligations.
Tasks: Measurement of effectiveness:

 Modelling future tax positions, and  Provides timely, accurate and proactive
sensitivity analysis around this reporting on all relevant matters

 Planning provisional tax payments

 Imputation credit planning

 Keeping current on legislation, research


and discussion papers including
dissemination of information to
appropriate stakeholders

Qualifications ACA or CA qualified

Experience 3+ years working experience in a Tax experience within a CA firm


relevant, accounting-based role Life insurance exposure
Direct and indirect tax experience
Skills  Initiative, positive and pro-
active ‘can-do’ attitude
 Working knowledge of NZ
IFRS
 Sound knowledge of NZ tax
legislation
 Sound organisational skills
and an ability to prioritise and
