Call to order
Philip Manning called to order the mesting of the Oconee County Schools Business and
‘Computer Science Advisory Committee at 8:50am on 3/12/18 at the Oconee County
Chamber of Commerce
Roll call,
‘The following committee members were present: Dr. Tiffany Alexander, Thomas
Christian, Philip Manning, David Branch, Gavin Perlman, Zach McGee, Betty Brown
Williamson, Casie Bridges, Kevin Fratiger, Sherrie Canapbell, Jenifer Dorsey, Randall
Brown, Chandler Davis, Alex Ventura, Dr. Thiab Tah.
Approval of mimutes from last meeting.
‘The meetings from the Fall 2017 meeting were displayed. Ms. Betty Brown-
Williamson moved to accept the minutes as presented. Mrs, Jenifer Dorsey seconded
‘the motion. The motion passed
Open issues
4) Computer Science Pathway ~ Mr. Manning and Dr, Alexander diseussed
the state ofthe computer science programs at OCHS and NOHS
respectively, and both mentioned the need to increase female enrollment.
Dr. Taha offered the help of UGAs Computer Science students in
‘recruiting more female students and doing outreach to underserved
populations to help grow the program. Dr. Taha also recommended having
sudents wait until they are in college to take Computer Science B. Mrs
Dorsey and Mr. Brown discussed the state of computer science atthe
‘midale school level and the need for updated standards. Both Dr, Alexander
‘and Mr. Manning noted that thee enrollment was up in the business
program in general thanks tothe addition ofthe new computer science
classes. Mr. Manning mentioned tht li had enough students sign up to
‘make 11 or 12 classes but will only be able to offer 6 due to him being the
‘nly business teacher at OCHS. Dr. Alexander commented that she also had
solid numbers but because ofthe socond business teacher at her school, they
‘were able to offer more elasses. Mrs. Dorsey brought up the idea of
teaching the itroduetory level courses a the middle Schoo! like many other
