“Miracle in Cell no.

7”

Introduction:

The Miracle in Cell No. 7 was a Korean movie about a loving father named Lee Yong-
Goo, who is mentally impaired. But even though he has disability, he still takes care
for his liter daughter. People with mentally dysfunctions has a pure heart that even
though they were punished, hurt their feelings by others and misunderstood by many
they still love those people harmed them. This movie represents how badly people
with disability mistreated. People with higher positions and where high minded are
taking advantage to those with disability issues. People like Mr. Lee Yong-Goo do not
have the voices to speak out from themselves and they couldn’t even protect
themselves to those people who took advantage and use their authority as power
against helpless people. When in the time that they were in the courtroom, he was
psychological and mentally abuse by the Commissioner’s daughter, to protect her
daughter Ye-Seung. There was no justice that happened that time Ye-Seung was still
a child. When Ye-Seung was a lawyer she fight and to claim that her father was
innocent and to clean her father’s name.

The author of the film are Lee Hwan-Kyung, Kim Hwang-Sung, Kim Young-Suk and
Yoo Young-A.

The main argument here is that there is an abuse of power and authority. Yong-Goo
was killed and hated in the film for something he did not do. By killing him off, the
viewers learned a lesson not to judge people who had disability. The scenario
happened to the father of the child Yong-Goo which is the life sentenced isn’t
appropriate to accused him with that especially when it is wrong suspicion not
because he is mentally impaired doesn’t mean that he would do bad things to other
people. In Yu-Goo’s case he is a loving father of Ye-Seung which is also a little girl,
he has a big heart when it comes to a child which I conclude that he wouldn’t do that
thing. The elderly woman must know the whole story first before she conclude that
Yu-Goo did sexual harassment to that kid. They didn’t even give Yu-Goo an
opportunity to explain what was really happened because they have this mind-set
that since he had disability, he is also not able to think right at all times. A police
commissioner which is the father of the victim took an advantage to Yu-Goo because
he knows that he is more powerful and have an authority than to him because Yu-
Goo was just a helpless father and aside from that he is disabled.

In our generation today the relevant of this film that I can relate is in our country
Philippines. As we are all aware of the war on drugs happened lately, we can see the
news that got killed by our policemen because those victim resist and fight against
them that’s why they were killed. As a human being created by our creator Jesus
Christ our lives was precious and we must take care of it. Killing those innocent people
wasn’t right at all. We should really know the whole story and what was happened
before we conclude. We must know both sides of the story and look for evidence in
suspicion. Those people who are in the position shouldn’t use their authority and
power as an advantage to the innocent.
Miracle in Cell no. 7 was impactful film, a heartbreaking and a touching movie. This
movie will touch every Father-Daughter relationship. It’s about trust, humility and
being strong at the same time. This story gives us a glimpse of a story about the love
of a father to his daughter despite of his condition. A true message of a great love of
a father and how he sacrificed for the sake of his daughter. Just like God towards us
as His children, He willingly sacrificed His son Jesus for us, and it is all because of his
love. True love. Great love until eternity. Power can make you blind, in a world we
live in today, there are people who are blinded by the power they have and will use
it as long as they can. They won't even think twice. They'll use it to gain more power
or even use it against those who are inferior to them. Not all gangsters or prisoners
are "totally" bad. I do believe that not all who are inside the prison cell are criminals.
There are those who are falsely accused and there are those who are incapable of
defending themselves that why they end up there. Life is short and that's why we
should always make every second memorable. The mind can forget, but there are
certain moments on our lives that the heart can't forget. Because the feeling that we
feel on every precious moments we make are the ones for keeps.

Summary:

A mentally disabled father, Lee Yong Gu lives a happy life with his only 6 year old
daughter, Ye-Seung. They both love each other just like how a father and daughter
should be. Though they live a minimum life from a monthly salary Yong-Goo got from
being a parking lot assistant, they survive and as a very smart kid, Ye-Seung helps her
father in the daily life and even take care of him.

Back then, it was shown that Sailor Moon was very popular among kids, Ye-Seung
wanted the Sailor Moon bag badly and together with her father, they come and stare at
the bag in a shop every day. One day, the last piece of bag was sold. Unfortunately,
the Sailor Moon bag was bought by a girl whose father happens to be a police
commissioner. Yong-Goo strive to get the bag back but he failed. He promised Ye-
Seung that he will still buy the bag.

The next day, Yong-Goo was approached by the little girl who bought the bag, and told
him that there's another shop which still sell the same bag and ask him to follow her, so
Yong-Goo followed. It was winter and they come across a market street, the road was
wet and slippery. Suddenly, Yong-Goo who was left behind hear a yell from the child and
when he came, the girl lay unconscious on the ground was met an accident. Yong-Goo
tried to save her but an elderly passing by mistakenly thought Yong-Goo was kissing
and holding the little girl's chest, overall what she saw surprises her and she thought that
Yong-Goo was raping the girl.

It turns out that the girl was a police commissioner's daughter. The girl was found dead
and from the statement of the witness, Yong-Goo was falsely accused for sentenced to
death for abduction, sexual assault and murder of a young girl. With the unfortunate
situation he got, and the limited capability of him to explain things, at last the police
forced him to confess his crime and he was imprisoned without further investigation.

He was assigned to cell no. 7 where other 5 other criminals with serious offenses have
settled for years. At first, he was ill treated by his inmates. But after one occasion where
he save the cell leader from the sudden attack of his rival, situation changes. The leader
promise to grant him a wish and with no hesitation Yong-Goo said his wish is Ye Sung.
Being very tricky in their life before, they succeeded in smuggling Ye-Seung into the
prison and both father and daughter was happily reunited. But not long after that, Ye-
Seung's presence in the cell was caught by the warden officer and immediately she was
sent back to the child care.

Hearing the news of a family member who can "visit" the cell, one of the prisoner was
envious and made a ruckus by setting up fire in the prison. The warden officer try to
negotiate but he fails to attempt. The flame got wilder and they both were trapped and
remain unconscious while other prisoner are busy being sent out to the field to save
themselves. Yong-Goo saw it and risked his life to save them.

The occasion change the officer's point of view about the prisoner, especially when he
see the strong love he got for his daughter when she visits him. He's sensing something's
wrong with the case and try to re-investigate it. He soon learn that Yong-Goo was totally
innocent and is a victim of police's brutality and justice manipulation. In the meantime,
Ye-Seung got sick as she's separated with her father and pleaded the officer to also take
her into the prison. With a very hard decision to make, the officer grant her wish.

Knowing that a person like Yong-Goo couldn't have commit any crime, his cellmates try
to investigate the case and ask him what has really happened. After all, it was merely an
accident where the little girl fell off on the slippery street and got hit by a brick on the
forehead. Yong-Goo who was there in the incident, try to revive her by giving a CPR, but
unfortunately, the witness saw it in the opposite way. The day of his court was announced
and so all his cellmates prepare him for the trial so he would be proven innocent and
avoid the unworthy death sentence. But just before the court started, the commissioner's
came up and beat Yong-Goo harshly in revenge and anger. He stated that he might do
the same thing to Yong-Goo's daughter if he doesn't admitted the crime later in court.
Thinking only to save Ye-Seung and protect her, Yong-Goo left all his preparations and
admit the sin he never did. Therefore, he would be executed as the punishment.

Still trying to save the life of the innocence, the prisoners worked together to flee Yong-
Goo using a hot air balloon, but failed.

The day of the execution come and it's on Ye-Seung's birthday. It was a happy scene
where one by one the inmates are giving Ye Sung her birthday gift and at last Ye Sung
could get a Sailor Moon bag from her father. But then, Yong-Goo was summoned by the
officer and his cellmates, knowing that it's their last time to see him, they write some
love notes on his back. With little knowledge of what's going to happen, Yong-Goo and
Ye Sung walked happily until they're forcedly separated.

Years later, Ye-Seung try to clean up her father's name by a further investigation in court
and in the name of justice ask the court to forgive her father. After several strong
arguments and flashbacks, having the cellmates and the warden officer who has now
become a commissioner himself as witnesses, she win the case.
Analysis of the Presentation:

The validity of author in this film was actually depends on the situation itself because
sometimes there is a possibility of falsely accused and the wrong victim itself doesn’t
deserved to and there is also people who are incapable of defending themselves that’s
why they end up there. I don’t agree with the poor actions of those authoritative people
who used their power to accused innocent people. I strongly disagree by the wrong
actions of the judge’s final decision to a life sentenced to a person who had mentally
disorder Yu-Goo who’s innocent but accused and force to claim that thing he never did
but because of his act of kindness to help that child it turns out into negative. It shows
the disadvantage of the helpless people towards authoritative people because they
don’t have the power to defend themselves even if they were innocent. They can only
have justice if you were rich but if you’re not then you can’t have justices.

The information isn’t accurate even if a person have disability doesn’t mean that they
were bad. We cannot conclude that they would just do bad things towards other people.
The information of the film was significant because it has a lot of moral lesson to
served, it made us realized that the love of a father to his daughter is far beyond
incomparable, sacrificing for someone you love, mentally challenged people are always
judged, power can make us blind, know both sides of the story, act of kindness can
make people change, not all prisoners are totally bad, bad experience can mold us into
a better person and we must treasure the present times. The author interpreted clearly
in the end because her daughter still won the case even though it’s too late but the
important thing is that she did. The author was being bias by the people who are
authoritative because they discriminate helpless people.

Response:

Both agree and disagree in different situation. First I agree for the author’s views
because somehow it is realistic, it somehow happens, I agree because this film can
possibly use as a way of message to us audience especially to those authoritative
people for them to realize such unfair thing against innocents. I disagree because why
is it too late for them to achieve justice. People who deserved justice must be given
unto them. It is tragic that her father was sentence to death before they get the justice.
This film itself for me will be more appreciated if the justice served before his life
sentence, to be fair for all of them.

Conclusion:

The overall validity of the film Miracle in Cell no.7 was a miracle and all of us want to
witness miracle, and this might be the one for you. It will make us realize how lucky we
are to be surrounded by wonderful people. It will make us value all the relationships we
are having at the moment. Life is short and life itself is a miracle.
