“SMART HELMET” The thought of developing this project came from social
responsibility towards the society. Motorcycle is most widely used vehicle in India.
Fatalities due to road accidents are significantly high. It being an obvious choice as
continent transportation mode has major contribution to road fatalities. Despite
government traffic regulations people still avoid using helmets. Usually people die due
to lack of treatment in proper time. The reasons for this may be many such as ignorance
of rider, late arrival of ambulance, no person at place of accident to give information to
the ambulance. The proposed system is an effort to create awareness among society by
endorsing use of helmet and lead people to safety. So we can minimize death rate. The
main features of smart helmet are as follows:

 ECG Sensor is used to detect whether the rider is wearing helmet or not. If the
electric activity of the heart is not detected, then the vehicle doesn’t start. And
the rider’s heart rate can be monitored in case of an accident through cloud.
 An Alcohol sensor detects the attentiveness of alcohol gas in the breath of the
rider. If the alcohol gas is sensed, then the vehicle doesn’t turn on.
 The Vibration sensor is used for vibration detection. Vibration sensors are
placed at different places of helmet where the probability of hitting is more.
 Radio Frequency module consists of a RF Transmitter and RF receiver. The
Transmitter is placed in the Helmet and the Receiver is placed in the Bike.
 When the data exceeds minimum stress limit then GSM module automatically
sends message to ambulance or family members with GPS location.
 The data recorded by the smart helmet is linked with the cloud and this data can
be accessed by the user.
