8.0 BREAK-EVEN ANALYSIS

The income, estimated cost and break-even analysis of the program is shown Table 4, Table 5,
Table 6 and Figure 1.
The fee for this program is fixed at RM 10.00 per person. As such, the expected income,
expenses and break-even analysis for the Chemical Engineering Sports Day (World Cup
Chemical 2018) are as follows:

The formula to calculate the break-even analysis is as follows:

𝑌−𝑍
𝐶𝑜𝑛𝑡𝑟𝑖𝑏𝑢𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛 𝑀𝑎𝑟𝑔𝑖𝑛 = 𝑋 100%
𝑌
Thus, the expected profit percentage by organising the program is as follows:
𝑅𝑀 10.00 − 𝑅𝑀 9.00
𝐶𝑜𝑛𝑡𝑟𝑖𝑏𝑢𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛 𝑀𝑎𝑟𝑔𝑖𝑛 = 𝑋 100%
𝑅𝑀 10.00
= 10 %
The estimated profit of this program shall be RM 1,920 X 0.10 = RM 192.00.

Figure 1 indicated that the program should collect fees from more than 176 participants to reach
minimum profits at RM32.00 which is 92% of the total students of Department of Chemical
Engineering and Energy Sustainability. The calculation was done by considering the collected
fees, fixed emergency fund and fixed total expenses.
