The Year and Issue

The World War II also known as the second war after the recent Great
War was a global war that lasted from 1939 to 1945, the Empire of
Japan aimed to dominate Asia and the Pacific and was already at war
with the Republic of China in 1937, but the world war was generally
said to have begun on 1st September 1939 with the invasion of Poland by
Germany and subsequent declarations of war on Germany by France and
the United Kingdom.
There are many reasons as to why we can say the World War II began,
but however several researches have proofed that the causes of the war
were the up rise of Italian fascism (simply known as fascism, it was
rooted from the Italian nationalism, but in terms of the great Italian
history, back into the Roman Empire “not any specific type of blood”),
Japanese militarism (a belief that the Empire of Japan should dominate
the political and social life, and that the strength of the military should
be equal to the strength of the nation) and invasions of China in 1930,
and especially the takeover of Germany in 1933 by the Nazi Party which
was led by the person responsible for the war Adolf Hitler.

How did the World War II impact people’s lives and how was
human dignity affected?
I could write an essay about how the WW2 had its impact on many
people’s lives and how it affected human dignity but I will try my best
and give short and concise answers to the event that is very interesting
historically. These are five reasons out of the many that exist:
1. It led to the rise of women rights, since women had to run the
nation alongside the men in the fight.
2. The war almost wiped Jews off the surface of earth, which led to
great sympathy from them in the Western world which still
continues today.
3. Many nations were destroyed and people were left with nothing.
4. World War II destroyed many people’s homes and this was
probably the biggest affect it had left behind.
5. It even promoted the use of propaganda in the world in order to
increase nationalism countries.
How was it resolved?
On 8 May 1945, the Allies accepted Germany's surrender, about a week
after Adolf Hitler had committed suicide. Although the war was
officially ended in the Far East, it raged on claiming more lives
(generally over 60 million people were killed, which was over 3% of the
1939 world population -est. 2 billion). And Japan did not surrender the
same time as Germany, they were able to hold on for a few months until
atomic bombs were dropped in two cites on August 6th and 9th
respectively. Afterwards the Imperial Government sought the Empire’s
personal authority to surrender which he granted. On the 15th August
1945 Japan surrendered to the allies. And on the 2nd September having
agreed in principle to unconditional surrender on the 15th August 1945,
Japan formally surrendered, ending the World War II throughout the
entire world.

The Jamaat al Muslimeen coup attempt was an attempt to overthrow the
government of Trinidad, initiated on the 27th July 1990. Over the course
of six days the Jamaat al Muslimeen held hostages (including Prime
Minister A. N. R. Robinson and other government officials) at the Red
House and at the headquarters of Trinidad and Tobago Television. In the
researches made it is claimed by one of the Muslimeen member’s that
the attempted coup was caused by land row. According to an interview
by former minister of communications Gerald Hadeed, two days before
the coup attempt, Prime Minister Robinson was warned that there might
be an attempt to overthrow his government on that day and he was asked
to have the scheduled sitting postponed, Robinson declined.

How did it impact on people’s lives and affected human

dignity?
Although the event occurred right here in the island of Trinidad it had
many effects. Some are:
1. It had the county under lockdown (state of emergency).
2. They violated the rights of women (sexual assault).
3. The coup killed 24 people, this breached the human rights
violation.
How was the attempted coup resolved?
Yasin Abu Bakr appeared on television and announced that the
government had been over thrown and that he was negotiating with the
army. He called for calm. After six weeks of negotiation, the Muslimeen
surrendered on the 1st August and were taken into custody. The
organization led by Abu Bakr along with his 34 members, were charged
with larceny, robbery, illegal possession of weapons, rape and murder.
This event led members of Jamaat al Muslimeen to believe that the
government was being oppressive and had illegally occupied their land.
Before the coup, Abu Bakr was arrested several times on charges of
contempt of court and illegal demonstrations.

The Black Power Revolution, also known as the "Black Power
Movement" occurred in1970. Between 1968 and 1970 the movement
gained strength in Trinidad and Tobago, under the leadership of Geddes
Granger (now Makandal Daaga) alongside the NJAC (National Joint
Action Committee). This movement has proofed to be misunderstood in
some instances.
It was an attempt by a number of social elements, people and interest
groups in Trinidad and Tobago to force socio-political change. It began
with the 1970 Carnival band named Pinetoppers whose presentation
entitled the truth about Africa included portrayals of “revolutionary
heroes”. This was followed by several marches and protests.

How did it impact people’s lives and affect human dignity?

Some answers to this question are:
1. It gave black people their rights to be equal as everyone else.
2. The movement gave a positive effect on black persons since they
were fighting for their rights.
3. The movement proofed to be a serious challenge to Prime Minister
Eric William’s authority.
How was it resolved?
The movement was prominent in the late 1960s and early 1970s,
emphasizing racial pride and the creation of black political and cultural
institutions. On April 6th a protester was shot by a police man, which led
to the resignation of A.N.R Robinson. On April 18th sugar workers went
on strike, and there was talk of general strike. In response to this,
William’s proclaimed a state of emergency on April 21st and arrested 15
black power leaders. Responding in turn a portion of Trinidad’s Defense
force took hostages at the army barracks at Teteron. However in 1970
April 25th it came to an end.
