INFLUENCE OF POLLUTION ON FARMING

Influence of pollution on farming

Introduction
Harmful influence of pollution on the environment is undeniable and proceeds causing more and
more troubles to households and individuals all around the world. Acid rains, pulmonary diseases,
damage of the stratosphere layer, changes in climate and overall warming are only a part of the
problems, which were caused by gaseous oxides. Polluting particles consist of fug and hydrocarbons
(Mukherjee, 2002). This research was created to give an overview on the influence of pollution on
farming. Understanding of these effects and causes may greatly contribute to the overall
improvement of ecology and situation in agricultural sector.

Impact of pollution on agriculture

Air pollution affects all the aspects of our lives and every item of an agriculture system is currently
under attack. Bellow we will describe the influence of air pollution on various agriculture aspects.
1. Plants are influenced by air pollution in multiple ways: yellow leaves, slower growth, foliage
damage and even total loss of harvest. Such effect is caused by photochemical smog, which
reduces yield;
2. Soil. There are no doubts that agriculture fully depends on the soil and its quality is a crucial
element of the whole system. Various oxides, like sulfur and nitrogen can be a cause of acid
rain, which changes soil PH and eliminates important nutrients;
3. Animals are influenced by air pollution and suffer from many complications and disorders
(Unsworth & Ormrod, 2013). This causes lower quality of animal products;
4. Climate changes, which can cause rainfalls or droughts, which can be harmful for the harvest.
The main enemy of the climate is chlorofluorocarbon, which is released to the air and causes
the damage of the ozone layer.

Conclusions
Air pollution has unquestionable influence on agriculture and can impact all spheres of the system.
It damages plants, soil and crops, influences animals and climate, which lead to harvest decline. Main
air pollutants include greenhouse gases, various particles and oxides. The greenhouse effect greatly
contributes to the global warming and climate changes.
