Somber moments
No doubt, it was an exciting week for
our Washington, D.C. Trip students.
Lots of fun, lots of learning, and also
some touching moments some 1,875
miles away from Glasgow. One of
Skylar Saiz’ special mission was to
find the name of someone on the
Vietnam Memorial Wall located at
Arlington National Cemetery. It was
actually a school assignment, and
Skylar had to track down the name
of fallen soldier Larry E. Schwarz,
a young area man giving his life
to our country’s freedom. Mission
accomplished. This trip isn’t all
peaches and cream (the Holocaust
Museum brings tears to the eyes to
most) but it’s a journey these students
can cherish for a lifetime.
For the record,
Private First Class
Larry Edward
Schwars of Malta
(honored on Panel
40W, Line 60 of the
Vietnam Veterans
Memorial), born June 27, 1948, died
in action in Quang Nam on October
30, 1968, a mere 20 years old. His
branch of military was the United
State Marine Corps.
God Bless our Troops, and God
Bless our future leaders that go
to Washington, D.C. to learn the
upmost importance of our nation’s
history and remain to be free.

Financial Analysis Planning
with Plank Stewardship Initiative

MSU Extension is providing Farm and Ranch families

with the unique opportunity to hear from experts
in agriculture financial analysis to gain insight and
tools to move their operations to a level of improved
functionality.
Educators from Plank Stewardship Initiative will be
in Glasgow Monday April 1 at the Valley County
Courthouse to share their ideas with those involved
in production agriculture. This program is intended
to provide agricultural producers with the tools and
guidance necessary to conduct a full financial analysis
of their operation. Through the use of enterprise
accounting, producers will determine the profitability
of their ranch as a whole and on an individual
enterprise basis. The program will begin with an initial
overview seminar designed to familiarize producers
with the basics of enterprise accounting and unit cost
of production. Subsequent meetings will focus on
satisfying the needs of individual operators and will be
geared towards determining profitability of enterprises
within the operation as whole (i.e. cow/calf, heifer
development, hay production, pulse crops, wheat crops,
etc…). This workshop will provide operators with the
ability to make informed management decisions based
on the profitability of individual enterprises within their
ranch business.
