A – Say these
1. Pre-teach Vocabulary

Draw a simple map on the board.
Point to the map as the teacher point to the map and model
the words:
Straight, corner, right, left, two blocks, cross the street
Students repeat.
Teacher point to the map and have students say the
appropriate word for the direction shown.
30’ 2. Practice giving and following directions
Indicate a beginning point on your map (labeled bus stop).
Move the pointer along the map as teacher describe the
direction:
Go straight, turn left……..
Ask students repeat.
Have a student volunteer stand next to the map and trace
the route as teacher give directions.
Repeat for several volunteers.

Students should trace the route on their maps as they
practice the directions.
