“To be dependent or not, that is the question”
A good economy is essential to one
country for it to be able to grow and to
provide the needs of its people. Acacetus is
what we name our paper because it is what
Hermes, the Greek god, was named for his
eloquence. This paper is intended to
persuade and focus on how can
industrialization change the Philippine
economy as well as providing insights of
how can we improve our country if the
government will focus on developing our
local industry instead of the foreign ones.
During the administration of Ninoy
Aquino, I have seen and heard a lot of news
about how many Filipino’s are becoming
more and more jobless as the year constantly
goes by and now with the current
administration of Duterte that take-over,
there was no news about it anymore for it is
a problem that they think is not news worthy
because of all the negative reports about it.
According to the Philippine Star Global, on
March 2018, the government find its
solution for the Philippines to catch up with
our industrialized neighbor country and that
is to seek help with China and by seeking
help means that all the Chinese companies
will relocate their manufacturing operations
in the Philippines. As stated by the Trade
Secretary Ramon Lopez in the article “We
should continue to strengthen our trade and
investment cooperation with China,
especially now that China is already moving
towards a services-oriented economy and as
its manufacturing investments shift to other
countries.” I personally think that we should
not depend on China alone but develop our
own manufacturing companies instead to be
able to reach the industrialized country our
government was intending to do.
Let me tell you that I agree with our
country being industrialized and seeking
help is also a good thing but we need to
know that we should always need to look
back and analyze the problem first and not
indecisively look for an alternative to
address it for a short-term availability only.
Yes, you might think that with these
companies opening, people will have a job
and that will lessen the poverty but have our
government ever think of allocating funds
for Philippine based companies first and
trust them to better serve the country than
these foreign companies do?
We think that the Philippine
Government should also focus on the
agricultural sector so that we could be able
to process finished products for our country
and by not buying imported goods. As it was
stated in the Aquino administration the
agricultural sector has fallen to its smallest
share in the national economy. We can say
that agriculture has a big part to the
Philippine economy so we should help the
farmers by help them to have their own land
so that we can ensure that there is
productivity in terms of Agriculture. First
thing that our Government should do is to
provide tranings and seminars for every
farmer because some are lack of basic skills
in farming. Second the goverment should
also developed a good infrastructure for
farmers like irrigation system, farm to
market roads, drying facilities, milling
centers and among others. Third is the
government should take impart of the
middlemen who is continuesly taking
advantage of the farmers that they are the

ones who dictates the price of the product at

a very low price instead of the farmers.
Lastly the government should benefit them
by giving them an aid if there is calamity
because as we can see most of the farmers
were not able to have an aid after the
calamity but instead they give it to the
people that were on the top they did not
distribute it well and the worst is most in the
goverment are taking the funds that is for the
farmers to help them in decreasing the
damage in their crops.
