Stewardship of the Good News

I was telling our confirmation class this week about how several of my friends and I read a book of the bi-
ble each week together. I could tell from their bewildered looks they had only one thing that ran through their col-
lective minds, WHY?!?! Well my answer to them, and the reason I encourage everyone to just pick up the bible and
read, is simply: Because it’s important.
It’s important to know how God has worked in and directed people’s lives throughout time. It’s important
to hear Christ’s words of forgiveness and wholeness. It’s important to be filled with life-giving words when the rest
of the world only seeks to drain that life out of us.
It’s important because through those simple words written thousands and thousands of years ago, God is
made known. In some holy mysterious way, God uses these simple writings to stir up faith in us, to strengthen us
when we’re weak, and to direct and guide our lives in ways that honor him.
I understand that sometimes (a lot of times) the Bible can be confusing, jumping back and forth between
stories. It can be full of battles and wars. It can be wordy and repetitive. My advice: don’t get hung up on what you
don’t understand. Skip it for now, ask me or your fellow church members, or look at www.enterthebible.org (a
helpful resource for big picture or detail oriented people alike!) for some help.
The point is: there’s no excuse for not reading God’s Word sometime other than Sunday morning. You
can do it! And I’m here to ask and maybe even answer some questions!
