Structured Learning Experience

Title:
�Para Kanino ka Bumabangon?�

Objectives
1. To be aware and increase the motivating factors or reasons for going to school.
2. To identify the possible reasons and/or wrongful acts of not going to school.
3. To plan for strategies that will minimize their misconducts.
4. To understand and appreciate the importance of education.

Time required
1 hour

Clientele
15 participants (Grade 7-10)

Materials
Stopwatch, sheets of paper, adhesive (scotch tape) and ball pen.

Ice Breaker

Name Impulse (2-3 minutes) - Step by step Instructions


1. Form a circle, seated or standing.
2. Starting with the person to your left, ask them to say their name as soon as
you give them a signal.
3. As soon as this person says their name, the person to their left calls our
their name, and so on.
4. This impulse of names continues all around the circle until it returns to
where it started.
5. Next, record the time it takes the impulse of names to be called all around
the circle.
6. Invite your group to make several attempts, and then change directions.
7. Note the best time.
8. Two-Way Traffic: Send the impulse in both directions (A and B Teams) at the
same time. Note which team was the fastest.

Orientation
The facilitator gives a brief orientation about how to respect one another
(eg., that there are no wrong answers and/or do not let the participants laugh at
the answer of others). Let the participants know that whatever information they
will know in the activity will be kept confidential. Hoping that the participants
will cooperate as the activity starts.

Instructions and Activity Proper

1. (10 minutes) Each participants will be given 2 pieces of paper. Then, the
facilitator will ask the participants the following:
a. What is education?
b. Is education important? Why?

Note: They can give brief answers.

2. (10 minutes) Ask the participants to post their answers to the board.
Discuss and consolidate their answers. Highlight the important aspects of their
answers. Ask the participant a follow up question. �Why do you go to school?�

Processing
1. (10 minutes) Now that the facilitator have identified their reasons of going
to school. This time ask the participants for possible reasons for not going to
school. Let them write in a piece of paper and post it in the board.

2. (10 minutes) Discuss their answer and encourage each of the participants to
find solution or strategy to avoid or solve these problems.

Synthesis
(10 minutes) The facilitator synthesizes the data gathered (the responses to
the question). Moreover, the facilitator can give additional input for the
participants to learn and apply.

Integration

(7 minutes) The following questions may be asked to facilitate insights and


applications:

1. What personal insights do I have after the activities and sharing?


2. What concrete steps can I apply to give importance of my education?
