Note: Put identification marks on all electrical connectors (4) for assembly purposes. Electrical connectors (4) must
be positioned on the correct support clip after assembly.

1. Remove the solenoid valve from the transmission hydraulic control valve by the following steps:

a. Remove electrical connector (4) from the support clip.

b. Remove the nut, the washer and coil assembly (2) from cartridge (1) .

c. Remove cartridge (1) from manifold (3) .

2. Check the condition of the three O-ring seals on the cartridge (1). Replace the O-ring seals with new parts, as
needed.

3. Install the solenoid valve to the transmission hydraulic control valve by the following steps:

a. Install cartridge (1) on manifold (3). Tighten the cartridge to 50 ± 5 N·m (37 ± 4 lb ft).

b. For the 3E-3748 Solenoid Valve, tighten the retaining nut for the coil to 5.0 ± 0.5 N·m (44 ± 4 lb in). For the
147-5399 Solenoid Valve, tighten the retaining nut for the coil to 9.0 ± 0.5 N·m (80 ± 4 lb in).

c. Install electrical connector (4) to the support clip.

4. Repeat steps 1.a through 3.c for the remaining solenoid valves.

8. Remove two connectors (8) from manifold (6). Check the condition of the O-ring seals on connectors (8). Replace
damaged seals with new parts.

9. Remove plug (10) from manifold (6). Check the condition of the O-ring seals on plug (10). Replace damaged seals
with new parts.

10. Remove twenty bolts (9) from manifold (6) .

11. Remove manifold (6) from valve (11) .

Personal injury can result from being struck by parts propelled by a

released spring force.

Make sure to wear all necessary protective equipment.

Follow the recommended procedure and use all recommended tooling to

release the spring force.

15. Remove retaining ring (16), two retainers (17) and spring (18) from spool (15) .

Note: Spool (20) and spool (25) are located in the same bore of valve (11). Spool (25) is located in the opposite end
of the bore.

Personal injury can result from being struck by parts propelled by a

released spring force.

Make sure to wear all necessary protective equipment.

Follow the recommended procedure and use all recommended tooling to

release the spring force.

18. The following steps are for the removal of spool (25) from valve (11) :
a. Position valve (11) on wood blocks, as shown.

b. Use a punch to drive pin (26) into valve (11) until pin (26) is clear of spool (25). Do not remove the punch at
this time.

c. Use a screwdriver to slightly depress spool (25) .

d. Remove the punch from pin (26) .

e. Slowly remove the screwdriver from spool (25). This will relieve the spring force that is against spool (25) .

f. Remove spool (25) from valve (11) .
