The Global Network Against Weapons & Nuclear Power in Space was founded in 1992 by the
Florida Coalition for Peace & Justice (FCPJ); Citizens for Peace in Space (Colorado Springs);
and Professor Karl Grossman of Journalism, based in New York.
Bruce Gagnon, who was the Coordinator of the FCPJ, served as Co-Coordinator of the GN with
Bill Sulzman from Colorado.In 1998 Gagnon left the FCPJ wanting to work full time on space
issues and began serving as Coordinator of the GN. It was the intention of the founders to create
an organization that would serve as a clearinghouse for space issues and act as a spark to ignite
education and organizing in order to build an international citizens movement.
Some of the remarkable achievements of the global network include the 1997 Cancel Cassini
Campaign (that launched 72 pounds of plutonium into space and was featured by the TV
program 60 Minutes) was a successful effort. In 2002 the GN expanded it to an entire week of
activities called Keep Space for Peace Week which annually draws events in over a dozen
countries. The general membership meetings/space organizing conferences of the GN have been
held in Washington DC (twice); Colorado (twice); New Mexico (twice); Florida; New York
(twice); Alabama; Nebraska; Massachusetts; Maine; California; Australia; England (twice);
Germany (three times); and South Korea (twice). It is a tradition that each GN meeting should be
held in a community that hosts a space related base or production facility.Today there are about
150 organizations that are affiliated with the Global Network.
The morality and ethics of moving an arms race into space must be vigorously debated.As more
and more nations become involved in developing space technology this expanding base of
activists are having an impact in shaping the debate about the need to keep space for peace. But
most importantly, the question of the kind of seed we carry from earth into the heavens must be
considered by the people of our planet.The essential objective of this Conference is to give a
stage to exhibit emerging issues and challenges in outer space and a contemporary analysis based
on legal, political, economic as well as scientific aspect in order to ensure peace and security in
the international sphere with concern to outer space. In furtherance to which, we intend to bring
prominent Academicians, Researchers, Lawyers, Scientists, Engineers and Students to share their
Knowledge. This will help in drawing out the innovative thoughts and research yields of the
legal side and technical aspects of conference them.
