More than ninety percent of British teenagers own a mobile phone; a minority have two or more.
These screenagers spend more than twenty-seven hours a week online. They can now connect when and
where they like with smartphones and tablets. Apparently, UK teenagers avoid using smartphones to chat
with friends. Instead, they chose to watch video clips, play games, share photos and send instant
message. As for social media, teens like keeping in touch via Twitter, Snapchat or Instagram. They leave
Facebook to their mums and dads!

Teenagers may be connected all the time, but there is one place where most teenagers can’t use
their digital devices: school! In the UK there is no law about phone in schools, but teachers can remove
devices from students if necessary. However, not all teachers agree and some even try to use
smartphones in class.

A recent British report said that removing smartphones from schools will give students more time
for their education. It said that smartphones are a big distraction, make students less productive and are
bad for learning.

However, in the USA some people do not agree. Recently one school in New York decided to
allow students to use smartphones at school. They said that smartphones can be an excellent resource
for the classroom. We carry a lot of information in our pockets and this information can be really useful.
In this New York school, smartphones can definitely make you smarter!

 Smartphone.

2). What do UK teenagers use smartphones for?

 watch video clips, play games, share photos and send instant message.

3). How is smartphone use in the US schools different from the UK schools?

 In UK, there is no law about phone in schools, but teachers can remove devices from students if
necessary. But in US, some people don’t agree about that. Recently one school in New York
decided to allow students to use smartphones at school.

4). “It said that smartphones are a big distraction, make students less productive and are bad for
learning.”

What’s your opinion about the statement above?

 I agree with that, because smartphones are more attractive. so students can't focus on the
lesson and prioritize smartphones.

5). What is the benefit that readers can get after reading the text?

 They will reduce the use of smartphones.

Part 4: Give your suggestions related to these following problems! Each suggestion should
be written in the form of paragraph consisting of at least 5 sentences!

1). Problem 1:

Hi, my name is Anna and I’m twelve years old. I’m into social media these days. I like posting my photos
and stories on Instagram. I find it really fun. But some of my friends told me that playing Instagram is
useless and it’s just wasting my time. They said that I’ll become an anti-social and live virtually not in a
real life. What do you think I should tell my friends?

 Hey Anna, I think that you have to tell your friends that playing social media doesn’t mean that
you’re an anti social. But, when you play Instagram too often, it will waste you’re time.

2). Problem 2:

My friend, Sisca, is really addicted to her smartphone. She never leaves it. Although bringing smartphone
is not allowed in my school, she will take it and hide it so the teachers will never find it out. She tends to
feel uneasy and anxious if she doesn’t have her smartphones. How should I tell and help Sisca about this
problem?

 I think you have to remind Sisca that taking phone to school isn’t permitted. Then, you must tell
her that she must stop being addicted to smartphones. Maybe she can stop the addiction by
having fun together with you or her friends.
