GREAT PLACE TO WORK

“You get to decide where your time goes. You can either spend it moving forward, or you can
spend it moving forward, or you can spend it putting out fires. You decide. And if you don’t
decide, others will decide for you.”

- Tony Morgan

EY is a great firm with some great people involved. Like any large corporation (or in this case
partnership) there will be a number of different takeaways and positive/negative experiences
dependent upon location (on a country, state, and office level), business segment (audit, tax,
advisory, transactions), and level within the company. The best partners at EY know their
industry in and out on top of their understanding of accounting. Since these firms are located
globally in most of the countries. You get to work with people of diverse cultures. You may even
get to travel internationally. These firms provide ample opportunities to network with your
seniors and juniors. There are various networking events such town halls, annual dinners,
monthly lunch/dinner with team, co-curricular activities, etc. Since you will be working with a
lot of clients during your tenure, there are fair chances that you will develop a network with
your clients as well.

The journey with EY explains you how networking and marketing your brand can be made a
creative activity. The ideal of networking that I learnt from EY is that you have to focus on
divinity in people.
EY explains how crucial business processes are to the country's development. EY motto is that
there are no friends in workspace, only colleagues (supporters or guiding lights, they won't go
the extra mile for you as a friend would have).EY gives a better work life balance and therefore
was ranked 29th in the Forbes list for best places to work at. The best part with EY was the
learning environment which included one to one sessions and team meetings, so that newbies
could comprehend the deeper concepts of auditing.

With new procedure of evaluation in EY, the power has now shifted. But hierarchy remains the
same. At the lowest level, there are analyst which has 3 levels i.e. analyst -1,2,3 followed by
senior and then after spending some days (year )being senior, one becomes manager and then
senior manager. Senior managers are promoted to either “executive director” or “partner".
Your promotion is subjective and depends on various factors of new evaluation method.

You don't need to be extraordinary to climb these stairs; you just have to be normal and loyal
to company. EY is great (that also depends on what management you have worked with) and
you would know that once you start connecting with people on a more diviner level and
sometimes, go the extra mile for them, which would show the much needed quality in modern
times : caring attitude.

Every organization is known for its uniqueness what makes EY different from any other working
organizations is the power structure and the flexibility. EY comprises of budding talents and
they majorly recruit from fresh out of college graduates. This enhances the team diversity and
there is a pool of freshly talented people waiting to explore the world. Working with these
young minds 20’s something shows fresh ideas and concepts. They are immensely talented and
represent creative thoughts. At EY cultural gender diversity is vast. They have a very specific
campaign about “building a better working world.” This actually differentiates them from the
other big 4 because they have a slogan and they stick to it in all their marketing campaigns.

EY is also known for their transaction advisory services practice.

They are really the only big 4 company that considers their transaction advisory services
division a separate division than their advisory practice. The EY transaction advisory practice is
growing at a pretty healthy rate too.

A culture of mediocrity –Once you work at EY you will start to get a lot of head hunters
contacting you for other jobs. Usually the best people leave for better opportunities. This is in
part because good people will find great opportunities and the fact that EY doesn't do much to
reward top performers. EY also has a strict rating system and will encourage the bottom people
to look for other jobs. With the top gone for better opportunities and the bottom coached out
you are left with the middle.

EY has been rated top employer so many times, it stopped coming as a surprise.People are
generally very friendly. And the work hours are demanding, but the pressure is
manageable.Once you’ve joined, you are assigned to a counselor. This is someone who is
supposed to guide my career decisions, which is pretty helpful. It is a place that causes you to
grow, and in your own speed too. They are meticulous, straight forward, career oriented, and
best part is being employee friendly. Also, it is one of the best companies for women; they have
hundreds of programs to foster career growth of young women, new mothers, expecting
mothers etc.

Female empowerment:the ratio of men to women was 1:2. Women are at the top posts and
you will hardly find any cases of sexism or inequality here. Also, if you are a mother EY is great
as you can work out a work from home scheme and there is also a crèche in the office itself.

Lots of activities: EY loves all kinds of festivals (even yoga day was celebrated!), comedy shows
are conducted, fun games are held every other month and a lot of goodies and snacks are
given. You can be a volunteer and help planning events too. There are a lot of youngsters and
you will find singers, dancers, artists etc. There are lots of fun activities to do during breaks.
They have a gym, massage parlor and pool tables.

paid parental leave in 2017 — half are men. And EY salaried employees can take up to 10 days
(up to 80 hours) of paid time off annually for personal and family care needs, such as attending
