UPSC and MPSC are two different exams. Both the exam is used to recruit
candidates for civil services, The difference is that the UPSC selects candidates
for All India Services (IAS,IPS,IFS and central services) while the MPSC exam
will select candidates for state services such as, SDM, DySP, etc.

While the nature of jobs may be similar but the responsibilities which an officer
of all India services have vis a vis their state counterparts is unparalleled.

More over officers selected by UPSC forms the higher echelon of the
administrative services in States as well as center where as the candidates

selected by the MPSC will be subordinate to the offices selected by UPSC.

So, if you want to be at the top of Indian administrative services you must prefer
UPSC over MPSC.

Rest, there can be multiple reason for once preferences, which you can better
judge.

I have only given a general idea that differences candidates qualifying UPSC and
MPSC exam.

UPSC posts are more prestigious. Their pay scale is also high. But competition is
very tough if you compare it with MPSC. So if you are ready for stiff competition
go with UPSC.

Requirements:

For both UPSC and MPSC graduation with minimum marks from recognised
University is a must.

For UPSC minimum age is 21 years, while for MPSC is 19 years.

Domicile of Maharashtra, knowing Marathi etc. are needed for MPSC.
