A Word About Out Fundraisers

We do two major fundraisers a year. One is the Golf Tournament in
November, and those funds carry us over into Spring. Then we do the
Kentucky Derby Party which helps us through the summer and into the
Fall. We have the Spirit Night or the Give Back Night at different restau-
rants in town, to add a cushion to the budget. This year it has been Chili's
and Sonny's, which have helped with some additional funds.
Flyers for any event we are sponsoring or for which MOW will be the
recipient of donations are in your notebooks, and usually emailed to each
volunteer we have an E-mail address. Some of our fundraisers may not be
something you feel you can financially support. Your support can come
in various ways, like posting the flyers at your community center, where
you shop, or you bank, the laundry, even the gas station!
Positive word of mouth is also important. These fundraisers not only
raise money to help defray our expenses, but also awareness about our
program. After 46 years, some people still do not realize Sebring Meals
On Wheels is a local organization.
By the way, our income from Chili's for February’s Give Back was
$390. The 6th Annual Sebring Meals On Wheels Kentucky
Derby Party will be held at the Woman’s Club of Sebring,
directly across from Veterans Beach on Saturday, May 4,

REMINDERS
 Check your notebooks BEFORE you leave the alley for statement envelopes, welcome letter s, and new infor mation that
might not have made the newsletter! If not paid in advance, some new clients get a “Start-up Fee” invoice. Sometimes we ask
that you wait for the startup payment. The client knows you are expecting it. We send out a Welcome Letter usually with their
first meal. It explains to the client what to do if away, ice packs and ice coolers, emergency information, particularly for the
summer storms and storm shelters. It also has a magnet with our information. Each notebook should contain some business
cards and maybe one or two brochures. Feel free to pass these out to others. Let the office know if the supply gets low.
 THE KITCHEN: If you are missing a meal item or needing a correction, let Dave, or Mary Margaret know, as we are the
only non-employee authorized to go to the kitchen entrance and we will try to handle the issues. It is perfectly fine for you to
be in the hallway in the Palms, or visit their facilities. Please don’t interrupt the staff. Thank you for understanding!
 If you are unable to deliver food, please DO NOT return any food to the Palms. They will simply throw it away. Find
somebody to feed! If they are not on our list, give them a business card or brochure.
 Knock. Ring Bell. Call on Phone. Should a client not be home and is scheduled for a meal, contact the office at 402-
1818. Just because it ‘looks like nobody is home’ doesn’t mean they are not. Be sure! Even check the door knob. Look for a
cooler, even on the golf cart! After calling the office, please continue on your route. We might call you right back to tell you
what to do with the meal. We have emergency contact number on file for the clients and with us at all times.
 Notify the office if a client is ill, or their overall condition has become worse or noticeably different since your last visit. DO
NOT LIFT a client who has fallen. Call Positive Medical at 655-0030 or 9-1-1. It is called “lift-assist”. There is no fee unless
they need a transport. CALL for help!
 Contact the Sebring Meals On Wheels office on any issues you may encounter at a client’s home. 402-1818. This is a vital
part of our mission. We are sometimes the only people to look in on these people each day.
 Client Coolers: must have ice or a freezer pack in that cooler. The Health Regulations require that ice or a freezer pack be
in the coolers if we leave food for the clients. No Cooler or No Ice in Cooler—DO NOT leave the food. If they have a
‘freezer bag’ with ice, use it. Never just leave food on a table, bench, or hanging in a grocery bag from the door knob.
 Payments: If you do not r etur n to the Palms after deliver ing meals and you accept payment envelopes that same day,
be sure to tell the client that the payment will not be turned in for a full week. This allows the client the option to pay the next
driver instead, if this is a problem for the client.
 Privacy Act for bids us telling the health infor mation on our clients. Please don ’t ask what is wrong with somebody, or
why they are on hold.
 Use a Hand Sanitizer between visits until you can pr oper ly scr ub your hands.
 Tips: We do not accept tips. If they offer , tell them we accept donations, which can be sent in with their payments.
 Do NOT administer any medication to clients, not even an aspirin. This includes handing them the pill container. It may
have been placed out of reach for a reason!
 Messy Coolers: Ther e is a gar den hose just at the doorway to the kitchen. Please take a second to hose the mess. J ust
pull the trigger. The kitchen does not have a set routine to clean these coolers and we don’t want scummy, moldy, yucky cool-
ers. We all need to be diligent about keeping things clean.
 Your Coolers: If you tr ansfer food to your own cooler for distr ibution and convenience, please br ing your own fr ozen
packs to keep cold things cold and a method to keep foods HOT.
 Client Responsibility: They should contact the office with any changes to their meal plan or deliver y schedule. You
may take the message and relay it on to the office, but ask the client to call and verify we received their directions.
 Fundraisers: These ar e a vital par t of a not-for-profit organization. Please support our efforts. Post flyers in
your clubhouse, where you bank or do business, give to friends. We might even get a client or driver from the liter-
ature you post! Take extras with you to the function, such as Chili’s or Sonny’s, and hand out to people in line or
entering the building. They might not know about the program, or may have forgotten to bring their flyer.
 TEXTING: Please avoid texting. Our phone does not have fancy pr ogr ams. If you want to send an email, that is OK.
