Executive Summary
Street Vendors: Their Business Problems and Solutions

1. Introduction
Street vendor is a very familiar person in Bangladesh, specially in urban areas.
Everyday we have to purchase a lot of products, foods or takes services from street
vendors. But we only have a little knowledge about their background, lifestyle and
day to day business activities. To gather information about street vendors I visited
Gazipur City and talked with three street vendors. The rest of the report explores my
gathering information about them in detail.

1.1 Objectives of the study

 To know about street vendors background
 To know the day to day activities
 To find out the challenges faced by the street vendors while operating the
business
 To provide recommendations for the betterment of the street vendors
 To improve our communication and writing skill

1.2 Location of the study

The research took place at Joydebpur in Gazipur City. Joydebpur is the core center
of this district. Lots of street vendors of different categories operate their business in
this area. Among them I have met three street vendors operating different business
in Joydebpur bus-stand bazaar road area .

1.3 Need for the study

Street vendors are an integral part in our economy. They contribute a lot to the
economic growth of our country. They make our day to day life easier but their
actual condition is not up to the mark in Bangladesh. Usually their financial
condition is not strong. Moreover, most of the time they suffer for security,
sustainability and friendly business policy. So we need to know about their
background , lifestyle, financial condition, business problems thoroughly and take
necessary steps to support them to overcome those barriers . In this regard, research
is needed to be performed in regular basis.
1.4 Methodology
To gather information about street vendors I have reached three street vendors. At
first I tried to find street vendor who was not busy in his activities. I went to his
location and purchased a product. In the meantime I started oral conversation with
him regarding the entrepreneur’s name, age, family, present address, home address,
product line, challenges he faces to operate the business and the solutions he makes.
In took notes of all the information that I got from them.

1.5 Limitations of the study

 Lack of experience to build a proper communication
 Some street vendors expressed their unwillingness to take photo of them
 Some totally denied to give any kind of information
 Sometimes they did not want to tell about the problem they face
