From the Minister
In a leadership meeting not long ago, I heard the words that had been said before, “We need to
remember all the GOOD things we have because of God.” (or something close to that—I paraphrase
because my memory isn’t quite as sharp). But the conversation leaned towards all the benefits that
we often overlook that come to us by being a part of God’s wonderful family. Our church family, our
position in Christ, heirs to God’s house, full and rich in mercy and grace, and so many, many more
things we should dwell upon because we belong to the Family of God. So, that being said, I ran
across this devotion by Rick Warren, that speaks to us about gratitude towards our Heavenly Fa-
ther…
When we forget God’s goodness, we start claiming credit for things God has done.
In Luke 12, Jesus tells a story of a rich man who had been very successful but didn’t give
God any of the credit. This man thought he built his wealth all by himself. God says to him,
“You fool. Tonight you’re going to die, and I’m going to give everything you’ve amassed to
somebody else who will appreciate it and express their gratitude to me.”
That’s a sober warning!
Prideful ingratitude is the sin that got Satan kicked out of heaven, and it’s the source of
all our sins. When you stop being grateful to God, you get into trouble: “Yes, [people] knew
God, but they wouldn’t worship him as God or even give him thanks. And they began to
think up foolish ideas of what God was like. As a result, their minds became dark and con-
fused” (Romans 1:21 NLT).
The problem with the self-made man is that he worships his maker. You may be think-
ing, Wait a minute; I built this business with my bare hands. But who gave you your hands? I
thought up the business plan totally by myself. But who gave you your mind? I worked for
where I got today by the sweat of my brow. But who gave you the ability to work so hard?
“What do you have that God hasn’t given you? And if all you have is from God, why act
as though you are so great, and as though you have accomplished something on your
own?” (1 Corinthians 4:7 TLB).
Everything you have in life—the ability to see, the ability to hear, the ability to eat, your
freedom, your thoughts—you owe to God. You would not take your next breath if it weren’t
for the goodness of God. You wouldn’t exist if God hadn’t made you to love you.
Ingratitude is actually one of the roots of atheism; when you’re ungrateful, you start
dismissing or even denying what God has done. And that’s just a short step from denying
that God even exists.
Yet the truth is we don’t even have to know a lot of the Bible to know a lot about God.
All you have to do is walk outside. The Bible says it like this: “For ever since the world was
created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can
clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no ex-
cuse for not knowing God” (Romans 1:20 NLT).
When you start to doubt the goodness of God, just take a step outside your door and
look around!
I hope we ALL continue to realize and continue to BELIEVE that God has been so very good to us.
Our church family continues to do some AWESOME things in the name of Christ. We continue to
show the LOVE of Christ in profound ways, and it is such an honor and privilege to minister to a
church family where love abounds. Everyone of you are a blessing! Thank You!
See ya’ Sunday.

Belief has been described as ascent to testimony; and faith as ascent to testimony, united with trust.
Faith is an act of believing with the will getting aboard. This distinction stands out better by noting the
difference between the phrases, “believe me,” and “believe on me.” “Belief” believes it is true! “Faith”
holds it to be true and trusts on the person, thing, or God. Its trust enough to live by the truth and prom-
ise of something. With such faith the men we consider to be heroes in the Bible lived and moved within
the world. In the case of God, one’s faith is always very well placed. We can trust in both the absolute
truthfulness and certainty of what is promised when it comes from God. God’s revelation is true both in
word, and as revealed through God’s actions in human history. These both offer a sound foundation for
a solid and uncorrupted faith.
Never is a Christian asked to believe in something of no substance for no good reason. We are not
asked to check our brains at the church door but indeed we are actually encouraged to study and know
the Word, and know our God better. God wishes us to grow in knowledge ‘till we become mature, claim-
ing a smidge of wisdom and steadfastness, along with our faith.
The truth that surrounds us within the creation is God’s truth, and where this truth is discovered and truly
understood, it points back to God. Belief in the historical existence of Jesus and in the truth of His
claims can be produced by evidence; but faith in a Savior and laying down the old self so that you
can be redeemed and made clean involves faith and trust. Even the demons believe, and shudder!
Our faith is more than just believing something, and our faith in Christ changes our lives! God acts for
our good, trying to help us lay hold of faith that saves, through the working of the Holy Spirit. He convicts
us, spiritually nudging us to trust the Savior and grasp grace. There is never a time throughout life’s tuff
experiences and ups-and-downs when God’s truth changes and becomes not worthy of our faith. We
may turn, but God will always be found true and faithful! As important as “faith” is, being a foremost
thing in Christianity, it is yet exceeded by “love!”
Embrace love for God and your neighbor, show that love, and they’ll not miss seeing your faith!
By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” Jn. 13:35
