You are on page 1of 2

The SCHEDULING CONTROL parameters shown at the top of the screen allow you to

make the following settings, for example:

"' You can set whether you want to carry out finite scheduling during dispatching.
If this parameter isn't set, the dispatch process assumes that unlimited
capacity is available. If there is insufficient available capacity, the dispatching
attempt becomes unsuccessful.

"' When you use the DISPATCH AT EARLIEST POINT IN TIME parameter, the system
doesn't consider interdependencies with other operations and proceeds to dispatch
the Operation as early as possible.

"' The parameter DISPATCH AT BEST TIME FOR SETUP chooses the dispatch date on
the basis of the existing setup sequence in such a way that the increase in the
overall setup time is kept as small as possible. This entails that the system
should have the provision to shift the already-dispatched operations. To attend
to this need, you also need to set the parameter INSERT OPERATION. The system
supports this function in the capacity planning table and makes sense only if
setup matrices for sequence-based setup are in place.

"' The DATE ENTRY WHEN DISPATCHING parameter ensures that instead of using the
operation date during dispatching, a popup window appears and prompts the
user for an interactive date entry.

"' The default setting for the planning direction is backward of the dispatch date.
However, you can change this setting when you activate the parameter PLAN.
DIRECTION FORWARDS. When the system is unable to find available capacity
within the planning horizon, and you have also set the parameter CHANGE
PLANNING DIRECTION, the system continues to search for available capacity in
the opposite direction.

"' The parameter PLANNING IN NON-WORK PERIODS overrides the non-work periods
in the work center and suggests 24-hour capacity availability with a full rate of
capacity utilization to the dispatch process.

"' The parameter CLOSE GAPS enables you to automatically close gaps that are
caused by deallocations or rescheduling. This again entails rescheduling of
already-dispatched operations and is only possible in the capacity planning
table.

The parameters in the DISPATCHING FUNCTIONS area at the bottom of the screen
define which options are available for dispatching:
~ SORT OPERATIONS TO BE DISPATCHED determines how to create the right sequence
of operations, if you want the system to dispatch several operations simultaneously.
~ The parameter CONSIDER OPERATION SEQUENCE IN THE ORDER enables the system
to adhere to the sequence of operations in the production order. When you use
this parameter, then in the case of forward scheduling, the system doesn't dispatch
the operation prior to its predecessor. Similarly, with backward scheduling.
the system makes sure that it doesn't dispatch the operation after its
successor.

~ Ifyou use OPERATION DATE CHECK, you can check whether the new operation
dates lie within the floats that can be selected using the following parameters:
~ USE OPERATION FLOATS
~ USE FLOAT BEF. PROD. (use before production)
~ USE FLOAT AFT. PROD. (use after production)

~ Ifyou want the system to immediately perform the midpoint scheduling process,
then you need to select the MIDPOINT SCHEDULING parameter. When you
select this parameter and depending on the operations, the system immediately
carries out the midpoint planning function; otherwise, it carries it out
when you save the planning results.

~ SETUP TIME OPTIMIZATION creates the dispatching sequence according to the

setup time minimization criterion.

~ Ifyou set the parameter CANCEL DISPATCHING DUE TO ERROR, the system doesn't
allow dispatch of operations outside the floats.
