MTA Measurements
MTA as a DSO (6 May 2016)
The MTA does not work well as a DSO.

This is a double pulse on the Tek 2467B and the same thing on the HP 54540A DSO

However the MTA produced garbage even when the pulses were slowed to 500uS width and 1000uS between
leading edges. The waveform below should show pulses 2.5 div wide with 2.5 div between them.
The manual covers this subject and states the maximum sampling rate is only 20 MHz.

Pulse modulated RF (6 May 2016)

The MTA pulse generator was used to send a modulation pulse to the HP8664A signal generator, the MTA then
displayed the burst and the demodulated pulse.
The burst is representative as 3GHz would show as a solid block. The Prologix was used, device initiated plot was
selected in the 7470A emulator, and then PLOT was pressed.

The green time is the MTA clock, the black time is the mainframe time.

2 to 4 GHz Isolator (7 May 2016)

Connect and configure:
 Connect HPIB between instruments, and Ref out (MTA) to Ref in (8672A)
 Connect RF out (8672A) through a splitter to both inputs
 Config>RF source>RF src>8672A to select the source. 8672A is recognized if address is as expected.
 Page 1 of 2>States>Vector Network>Start freq>Stop freq.>Source power level>RF on
 Trigger>Single, wait for completion>Traces>Store trace>To MEM1 (saves through-cal)
 Input>use knob to scroll to 2=(Ch1/Ch2)/MEM1>Return. Traces 1 &2 now have the same definition.
Format Trace 1 to show Magnitude and Trace 2 to show Phase:
 Select>TR2>Display ON>Format>Phase
 Trigger>Cont. Now we see two straight lines for Mag & Phase

This is the Isolator inserted in the forward direction:

And this is with the Isolator inserted in the reverse direction:

MTA with HP 8657A Signal Generator as source (9 May 2016)

Connect and configure:
 Connect HPIB and Ref out (MTA) to Ref in (8657A)
 Connect RF out (8657A) through a splitter to both inputs
 Config>RF source>RF src>8657A to select the source. 8657A is flashing, no source.
Address was 6 not 7 as expected
 Config>RF sourceHP-IB Addr>6>Enter

 Place DUT in the line going to Chan 1. Now we see the effect of the DUT (Bandpass filter).

 Instr Preset
 Connect signal to Input 1
