M & E Analysis on the Conduct of the

College Educational Guidance Program for SHS Students and Parents’
Graduation Concerns Forum

To highlight the value of higher education and help SHS students secure better life
chances, the Calbayog City National High School – Senior High School Department conducted
this program and forum on March 28, 2018.

Part 1 of the whole-day activity is the College Education Guidance Program intended for the Senior
High School Grade 12 Students. It started with the opening prayer and the singing of the National Anthem.
Afterwards, Dr. Calick Arrieta, CCNHS principal welcomed the participants. He emphasized the importance of
the program which will help students make decisions for their college education.

After the opening remarks, the discussion of the topics followed. Mr. Randy Durado, GA Teacher,
discussed the first topic, which is Planning and Preparation for College Admission. He emphasized the SHS
programs and academic curriculum that will help students prepare for their college application. He also
provided tips to students on how to plan and prepare for college admission tests.

Next, Mr. Michael Baculanta, ABM Teacher, talked about College Education Financing. He put emphasis
on scholarship grants and methods of financing from government and private institutions that will help
students support their college education. Some of the scholarship grants he mentioned are those offered by
CHED, DOST, and specific colleges or universities in the Philippines.

The third topic is about Career Portfolios, which was explained by Ms. Ma. Donna Mercurio, HUMSS
Teacher. She taught students to prepare portfolios that students could utilized when they start building their
career in the future, such as gathering their test and grade results, work samples, resumes and cover letters.
These documents will help students find prospective employers.

Finally, the program ended with a topic on Personal Development. Ms. Judith Fortaleza shed light on
special presentations that focus on skills and personal development. She provided tips on how students will be
able to broaden their knowledge and abilities, improve their decision-making skills, and increase their self-
esteem.

Despite the fact that the program started late, it ended at 12:15 noon.

On the other hand, in the afternoon, the parents came to attend the Graduation Concerns Forum. At
1:30, the program began with the opening prayer and the singing of the Nationalistic Song. Prior to the forum,
Dr. Calick Arrieta, School Principal, welcomed the parents with a short message. He talked about the highlights
of the College Education Guidance Program which the students attended in the morning and the significance
of the forum organized for the parents of the graduating class.

Mrs. Jasmin Aresgo, GA Cluster Head, presented the graduation requirements of the students which
included the submission and completion of the student’s academic and graduation requirements and
settlement of deficiencies before the day of graduation.
On the other hand, Ms. Marish Lou Fernandez, STEM, Cluster Head, provided the parents the
qualification guidelines for academic honors and special awards. Students should satisfy the required rating to
qualify for the academic honors and submit the necessary documents or certificates for special awards.

After the discussion, the open forum followed. One of the parents asked how they will found out if
their child has completed or lack the necessary requirements. Mrs. Aresgo answered that parents should ask
about the performance of their children from their adviser on their respective subjects. Another parent asked
about the invitation/program of the graduation which they haven’t received yet. Mr. Randy Durado said the
program/ invitation committee already started the printing and the school is still waiting for its completion.
Upon its completion, it will be given immediately to the students, parents and guests.

The forum ended with a closing message of Dr. Erwin Purcia who thanked the parents for attending the
activity despite their personal circumstances.
