Research Proposal

I am a huge technology-junky, if that’s a proper term to use for it. I am not completely familiar

with every view on the amount of technology society uses today, especially for the younger generations.

In my research, I would much rather initiate the focus to be towards video games. know there has been a

lot of conflicting opinions revolving around if violence in games can change a person’s behavior or

influence violent actions. A few years ago, I noticed that this started to become a more relevant topic,

and I’ve always been looking to find out more. I never had the time, though. So, this really pushes me to

need to know more, I have the time and the means to do it. If this topic affects someone I’m close to,

then that person would be me.

I feel very intrigued when it comes to this topic. It revolves around my daily life and the lives of

others so I feel that it could really shed some light on how I “really” view this topic. I think that video

games may have some affect on a person’s thoughts and behaviors, but I don’t feel that they could

influence extremely violent actions. I believe that video games are like any other persons escape from

reality, it’s a means to find peace and get away from stressful environments. I believe that young adults

can’t be influenced to do wrong when video games are essentially just as influential as a book. Just

because this person is reading a murder mystery, and the author details out the possibilities of murder

and the violence that could have gone into it, does that influence this person to act more violently? I
honestly don’t know much about this topic at all, so this entire assignment will be a huge piece of

learning for me.

I’m hoping to learn more about how video games actually affect someone’s mind. I want to find

out how many violent crimes and actions are reported to be done by a so-called “video gamer”. I want to

see if there are counts of someone who plays video games explicitly saying that they have become more

violent from playing video games. I want to know who’s more affected, children, young adults, or adults?

I want to know if behaviors are tainted from the video games, or are there issues at home? Is it from the

video games, or is it a biological matter that’s affecting gamers? There is a lot that I am hoping to learn. I

think I will start to find the answers through personal-accounts of a video gamer, giving me a main

consensus to how the general population of gamers think (or feel affected through games). How do

video games actually influence those who play them?
