Subject: Request to make zebra crossing

Sir,
Immediate attention is drawn to the traNc menace on the road in front of New Agra Public School, Ram Nagar. The road always
remain congested and traNc jams are common. The major concern arises due to the heavy moving of vehicles on the road.
There are no speed breakers or zebra crossings on the road, which makes it tough for the people, especially school students to
cross the road. The road is accident prone

I, a student of class X, New Agra Public School, on behalf of the students and school authorities, request you to please make
provision of creating zebra crossing on the road so that crossing the road would not be a life threatening task for the children
and other people.

I thank you in anticipation,

Yours sincerely,

Importance of Morning Walk

By Anita/Amit

A good physical workout is the key to a healthy life. Contrary to the beliefs of the young generation, one does not need to spend
hefty amounts on fashionable gyms to stay bt and healthy. One of the most effective and yet cheap way to stay healthy is
walking and specibcally walking in the morning.
A morning walk can do wonders for one’s body.
A rigorous walk in the fresh air leads to proper blood dow circulation in the body. It creates heat, which leads to the burning of
excessive fat and helps you get back into shape. Also, it makes you rise early, and creates good space for breakfast in your
stomach. Just 20-30 minutes of brisk walk can control the cholesterol levels, cardiovascular diseases and keep the body
weight under control.
However, morning walk cannot work independently. It has to be accompanied with a balanced diet. It is important that people
understand the importance of morning walk following a diet plan to attain a healthy lifestyle.

Two cats were prowling together in search of food. One of the cats saw a big loaf of bread. The problem occurred when the
loaf of bread could not be divided equally among the two.
The brst cat said, “Give me the bread. It is I who saw it brst.”
The other cat said “Keep away from it. It is I who picked it up.”
They were bghting and bghting. But there was no solution. Just then, a monkey passed by. He thought of taking an advantage
of the situation.
He came to the cats and said in a loud voice. “Don’t bght. Let me divide the loaf equally among you both”. The bread was
handed over to the monkey.
The monkey split the loaf into tow parts. He shook his head and said, “Oho! One is bigger. One is smaller”. He had a bit of the

The poor cats remained hungry and disappointed.

It was a family picnic. The picnic spot was on the bank of the river. We all went for the picnic after a long time. The most
surprising part about this picnic was that it was organised by my father as he recently got a promotion in his oNce. My mother
created lip smacking delicacies for all of us. We all got up early in the morning. The weather was absolutely perfect to be on the
river side. As we reached the spot, we saw many people enjoying. Many vendors were walking around providing things for
refreshment. My brother took with him a badminton set and football. We both enjoyed playing badminton. When we got tired,
mother offered us the food she brought with her. We had our lunch. When we were having our lunch, a poor girl selling balloons
came to me and requested me to buy a balloon so that she could arrange food for herself. Hearing this, my father gave money
to me and asked to buy all the balloons. The girl got very happy. My brother went with her to the shop to help her buy food. She
took the food to her little brother who was waiting for her. After lunch, we went for a small walk around river bank and reached
home tired after having a wonderful time.

Read the passage given below. (8)

Then all the windows of the grey wooden house (Miss Hilton used to live here. She expired last week.), were thrown open,
a thing I had never seen before.

At the end of the day a sign was nailed on the mango tree : FOR SALE.

Nobody in the street knew Miss Hilton. While she lived, her front gate was always locked and no one ever saw her leave or
saw anybody go in. So even if you wanted to, you couldn't feel sorry and say that you missed Miss Hilton.

When I think of her house I see just two colours. Grey and green. The green of the mango tree, the grey of the house and
the grey of the high iron fence that prevented you from getting at the mangoes.

If your cricket ball fell in Miss Hilton's courtyard you never got it back. It wasn't the mango season when Miss Hilton died.
But we got back about ten or twelve of our cricket balls.

The house was sold and we were prepared to dislike the new owners ever before they came. I think we were a little
worried. Already we had one resident of the street who kept on complaining about us to our parents. He complained that
we played cricket on the pavment; and if we were not playing cricket he complained that we were making too much noise
anyway.

One afternoon when I came back from school Pal said, "Is a man and a woman. She pretty pretty, but he ugly like hell". I
didn't see much. The front gate was open, but the windows were shut again. I heard a dog barking in an angry way.

One thing was settled pretty quickly. Whoever these people were they would never be the sort of people to complain that
we were making noise and disturbing their sleep.

A lot of noise came from the house that night. The radio was going at full volume until midnight when the radio station
closed down. The dog was barking and the man was shouting. I didn't hear the woman.

On the basis of your understanding the above passage complete the following statements :

(a) Nobody went into Miss Hilton's house because her front __________.

(b) Her house had only two colours, (i) __________ and (ii) __________.

(c) High iron fence did not let the boys get __________.

Read the passage given below: (12)

During our growing up years we as children were taught-both at home and school-to worship the photos and idols of the
gods of our respective religions. When we grow a little older, we were to read holy books like The Bhagwad Gita, Bible and
Quran; we were told that there are a lot of life lessons to be learnt from these holy books. We were then introduced to
stories from our mythologies which taught us about ethics and morality-what is good and what is bad I also learnt to be
respectful towards my parents who made my life comfortable with their hard work and love and care, and my teachers
who guided me to become a good student and a responsible citizen.
Much later in life, I realised that though we learn much from our respective holy books, there is a lot to learn from our
surroundings. This realisation dawned upon me when I learnt to enquire and explore. Everything around us- the sun, the
moon, the stars, rain, rivers, stones, rocks, birds, plants and animals-teach us many valuable life lessons.

No wonder that besides the scriptures in many cultures nature is also worshipped. The message that we get is to save our
environment and maintain ecological balance. People are taught to live in harmony with nature and recognise that there is
God in all aspects of nature.

Nature is a great teacher. A river never stops dowing. If it bnds an obstacle in its way in the form of a heavy rock, the river
water bghts to remove it from its path or bnds an alternative path to move ahead. This teaches us to be progressive in life,
and keep the bghting spirit alive.

Snakes are worshipped as they eat insects in the beld that can hurt our crops, thus protecting the grains for us. In fact,
whatever we worship is our helper and makes our lives easy for us. There are many such examples in nature, but we are
not ready to learn a lesson, Overcome with greed, we are destroying nature. As a result we face natural disasters like
drought, dood and landslides. We don't know that nature is angry with us.

However, it is never too late to learn. If we learn to respect nature the quality of our life will improve.

2.1 Answer briedy the following questions:

Whenever we want to achieve something diNculties always come in our way. What did Valli have to do to go and ride in a
bus?

Or

Education is always a great asset in the life of a woman. How did Bholi, an educated girl, face the challenge posted by
Bishambar's greed?

SOLUTION:
Yes, it is true that whenever we want something, diNculties do come come on our way. Achieving goals require perseverance.
Valli wanted to ride the bus, however, she did not have the money to do. The challenge in front of her was to arrange for the
required amount of money. Valli had carefully saved whatever stray coins came her way, resisting every temptation to buy
peppermint s, toys, balloons, and the like. Finally, she had saved sixty paise. At the village too she made the best efforts to save
as much money as possible. She was tempted to ride the merry-go-round as she had the money. However, she suppressed her
strong desire and saved the money for the bus ride.

Or

Education is one of the most critical areas of empowerment for women. Offering girls basic education is one sure way of giving
them much greater power of enabling them to make genuine choices over the kinds of lives they wish to lead. This is exactly
what happened with Bholi. At brst, Bholi had agreed to marry an old man because of her father's honour, thereby placing her
family's interest over her own. However, later she refused to marry him because she saw how mean, greedy and contemptible
he was. By demanding a hefty dowry, Bshamber took advantage of her bad looks and the desperateness of her father to get her
married. This is why she rejected the marriage and silenced everybody who called her shmaeless.

Answer the following question in 150-200 words: (10)

How did Miss Sullivan help Helen Keller when she was studying at Cambridge School?
Or
Attempt a character sketch of Mr. Gilman.
Or
Describe the difference between Anne's and Margot's feelings for Peter.
Or
Why did Anne like her father more than she liked her mother?

SOLUTION:
Miss Sullivan had taken Helen by the hand across the belds where men were preparing the earth for the seed, to the banks of
the Tennessee River. Sitting on the warm grass, she began the brst lessons for Helen in the benebcence of nature. Helen
learned how the sun and rain make the ground give life to trees that are not only pleasant to the sight but also good for food,
how birds build their nest and thrive from land to land. Also, how every creature bnds food and shelter. As Helen's knowledge of
these things grew, she felt more and more the delight of the world she lived in. Long before she learned to do a sum in
arithmetic or describe the shape of the earth, Miss Sullivan had taught her to bnd the beauty in the fragrant woods, in every
blade of grass and in the curves and dimples of her baby sister's hand. She linked her earliest thoughts with nature and made
her attuned to the beauty that abounds in the world. Her teaching methods were not par for the course but they believed in the
natural capabilities of nature to educate the sportive Helen as the girl herself was so eager to learn from anything around her.
Miss Sullivan understood the true capabilities of her student and designed her teaching methods accordingly.
OR
Mr. Arthur Gilman was the principal of Cambridge school of young Ladies. He was a kind and able teacher. Helen entered
Cambridge School, to be prepared for Radcliffe.Out of generosity he let Mildred, Helen's sister, study at Cambridge. He was
present for Helen as teacher, Interpreter and mentor. He took time out to read Shakespeare's "As you like it" with her. He was a
teacher who made study interesting for Helen. However, due to different opinion on Helen's preparing period for college, and
misunderstanding with Miss Sullivan, their friendship came to an end.
OR
Anne valued his friendship with Peter because he had reached a part of her that no one had ever reached before except in her
dreams. He had taken hold of her and turned her inside out. The dippancy and petulance which was characteristic of Anne had
been quieted by Peter's solid and calming induence. As she says that everyone needs a little quiet time to put themselves right
again, changing her irrevocably. There relationship was not of a romantic nature but one of solidarity and comfort in such trying
times as the one they were currently living in. Anne's loneliness was so overpowering that it did not matter to her that their
intimacy could be looked upon as inappropriate, all that mattered to her was the comfort she found in Peter. They provided
solace, comfort and companionship to each other, hence Peter was indispensable to Anne at that point.
Margot seemed unperturbed by Anne and Peter's developing friendship, she did not want Anne to feel sorry for her because she
was used to being the odd one out. In her letter to Anne, Margot wrote that their friendship had made her a little jealous but this
jealousy was neither directed towards Anne nor Peter. She was sorry that she had not found anyone with whom she could
share her thoughts and feelings. She also felt that this situation would remain unchanged even in the future. Margot could not
have gotten as far with Petter as Anne had because she needed to feel very close to the person before she could unburden her
heart. She'd want to have the feeling that the other person understood her thoroughly even if she didn't say much. For this
reason it would have to be someone intellectually superior to her and in this case Peter did not bt the description. So she
reassured Anne that there was no need for reproach herself thinking that she was taking away something Margot was entitled
to because that was farthest from the truth.
OR
Anne adored her father, she refers to him as the most adorable father she had ever seen. Her father loved Anne for being the
person she was, defending his daughter but also reprimanding her when it was necessary. He was also quite protective
towards her and interested in the little things that she was interested in. Her father had brought Anne's entire postcard and
movie-star collection to the Anne without waiting for his daughter to ask him to do. He was very concerned about their lives in
the annex, especially in their personality development and education. They work0ed on projects together like making the family
tree and also took a keen interest in supplying her with all the paraphernalia required to continue her studies. She called him
Pim which was the pet name for Father. Anne admired her father for handling situations and people with a saintly patience,
whether in the family or outside of it and also for being so supportive of her. Her father believed in her and had it not been for
him then she would have given up on herself a long time ago. He would intervene and uphold her right to refuse a dish if she
did not wish to eat it, he would defend his daughter's upbringing when it was brought to question saying that she had learned
not to respond to other people's interminable taunts and sermons. Anne engaged in a lot of activities with her father but she
was not quite comfortable when it came to unburdening her heart to her father. The level of intimacy was as father and
daughter and not that of friendship which could enable her to say anything to him. There was a sense of alienation she felt
because of the gap in understanding between them. Her father was an honest and simple man who could not understand the
intricate nuances that debned the personality of a growing young woman, especially one so astute, perceptive and mature as
Anne.

Ram and Mohan, two brothers, studied in a village school. One day they were returning from the school. On the way there

SOLUTION:
Once upon a time, a hungry fox was roaming around here and there searching for food. In his search he came to a garden
where he saw a grape-vine laden with bunches of grapes they looked quite ripe and juicy. But the bunches were too high for
him. To catch them, he jumped as high as he could. But he failed to reach them. He made another bold attempt, but was
unlucky for the second time. He tried for the third time and failed again. After number attempts and failures,. He was forced to
give up trying anymore, he just walked away and instead of accepting his failure, he remarked "the grapes appeared to be ripe
and juicy, but now I see them to be quite sour."
This story, thus, proves that, people generally hate what they can't get.

Or

Ram and Mohan, two brothers, studied in a village school. One day they were returning from the school. On the way there was a
forest. Ram was getting late to reach home asked Mohan if they could take a shorter route that passes through the forest.
Mohan showed his apprehension saying that he had heard a lot of horror stories about the forest. One of his friends has told
him that a white coloured creature roams in the forest and attack people. Hearing this, Ram laughed and asked Mohan to stop
believing in these false stories. Ram somehow managed to take the forest route along with Mohan. On their way, they suddenly
heard the loud trumpet of an elephant. There was standing a rarely found white elephant. Mohan got scared feeling that the
elephant might be wild and will attack them. Ram asked Mohan not to run as this could lead to the elephant to get angry.
Holding the hand of Mohan, Ram approached the elephant. Fortunately, he was carrying two bananas in his school bag. He
gave it to the animal which made the cute elephant like the two individuals. Mohan also showed his love to the elephant by
patting on his neck. The brothers became friends with the elephant and named it 'Dodo'. Now, Ram and Mohan always take the
forest route to meet their new friend and play with it.

Read the passage carefully: (12)

1 One would imagine that at the very sight of the panther, deer, antelopes, and its other preys would just run for their lives.
Nothing of the sort. They all stand their ground and make such a loud noise that the panther is left with no other choice
except to leave quietly. I have seen a tiny chital baby standing in the middle of an opening in the forest, stamping its feet
on the ground and shooing away a tiger. With the white of its erect tail showing, it kept up its shrill call until the tiger made
itself scarce. No tiger in its senses would attempt to catch such an impertinent brat, just as you would not dream of
catching an offending crow cawing away in your verandah.

2 While the panther sticks to cover and hugs the ege of the forest, the game animals, on the other hand, like to assemble
right out in open vast grazing grounds. Open spaces which the panther carefully avoids, are what the game animals
deliberately seek.

3 It is diNcult to describe the pandemonium kicked up by various animals when they spot or suspect a panther around.
The chital strikes a shrill note, the kakar emits a deafening bark and the sambar rings a bell. The peacock on its perch, the
jungle fowl on the ground, and the monkey on treetops, all join in the chorus of condemnation of the panther. They curse
the panther in their own inimitable language. The resulting confusion of sounds is so irritating to the sharp ears of the
panther that it is left with no other option except to go away.

4 The panther has thus to deal with its ever alert and watchful associates who show no mercy and expect none. It is a
bght between bnesse and dight, between clever attack and skilful defence.

Read the passage carefully : (1 × 8 = 8)

I was born in the small but beautiful mountain village of Nakuri near Uttarkashi in Garhwal, with the gurgling, playful
Bhagirathi river dowing nearby. My parents were a hard-working and extremely self-contained couple. Even though our
family was poor, barely managing the essentials my father taught us how to live and maintain dignity and self-respect –
the most treasured family value till today. At the same time my parents also practised the creed, "Kindness is the essence
of all religion." The were large-hearted, inviting village folk passing by to have tea at our home, and gave grain to the
sadhus and pandits who came to the house. This characteristic has been ingrained in me so deeply that I am able to reach
out to others and make a difference in their lives – whether it is in my home, in society or at the workplace.

I was the third child in the family – girl, boy, girl, girl and boy in that order – and quite a rebel. I developed a tendency to ask
questions and was not satisbed with the customary way of life for a girl-child. When I found my elder brother, Bachchan,
encouraging our youngest brother, Raju, to make up mountaineering I thought, why not me? I found that my brothers were
always getting preferential treatment and all opportunities and options were open to them. This made me even more
determined to not only do what the boys were doing, but to do it better.

The general thinking of mountain people was that mountaineering as a sport was not for them. They considered
themselves to be born mountaineers as they had to go up and down mountain slopes for their daily livelihood and even for
routine work. On the other hand, as a student, I would look curiously at foreign backpackers passing by my village and
wonder where they were going. I would even invite them to my house and talk to them to learn more about their travels.
The full signibcance of this came to me later when I started working. The foreigners took the trouble to come all the way
to the Himalayas in order to educate themselves on social, cultural and scientibc aspects of mountaineering, as well as to
seek peace in nature's gigantic scheme of things.

Answer the following questions :

(a) What does the author tell us about the bnancial condition of her parents?

(b) What is the most treasured value of the author's family?

(c) Give an example to show that the author's parents were very hospitable.

(d) What kind of girl was the author?

(e) How do you know that the author's parents discriminated between sons and daughters?

(f) Why do the mountain people consider themselves to be born mountaineers?

(g) Why would the author invite foreign mountaineers to her house?

(h) Why were foreigners drawn to the Himalayas?

SOLUTION:
(a) The author tells us that their family was poor and were barely managing the essentials.
(b) The most treasured value of the author's family are dignity and self-respect.
(c) The author's parents were very hospitable as they would invite the village folks passing by to have tea, and also gave grains

(d) The author was quite a rebel. She develpoed a tendency to ask questions and was not satisbes with the customary way of
life for a girl-child.

Subject: Problems faced in bnding accommodation

Sir,

I would like to get the attention of the concerned authorities towards the various problems faced by many students in bnding a
proper accommodation in Delhi. Though many paying guest options are available in the city, the owners come up with their own
specibc demands and conditions while providing a space in their PG and that too in return of an expensive amount. It becomes
more diNcult for those students who come from minority groups to get a place to live in. Unfortunately the hostel facilities
provided by educational institutions suffer from mismanagement in the form of unavailability of electricity, water, unhygienic
conditions of wash rooms and so on.
Through the esteemed column of your newspaper, I would like to bring in the attention of the authorities to create some set
standards and norms for the PG owners while providing accommodation and also to govern the educational institutions in
improving the management of the hostels.

I thank you in anticipation.

Yours sincerely,

Raman/Raveena

Safe Driving

By Aisha
In this rapidly moving world, we all are in a hurry. This hurry is most visible on the roads of today. Everybody, with the very basic
lame reason of getting late for their destination, try to over take each other through rash driving and end up losing their lives.
Road accidents have become very common due to the vehicle collisions and ignorance of proper road safety measures. Road
accident is one of the most reasons that lake up thousands of lives in a year.
Personal transportation is considered to be a necessity of all in these modern times, and so there is more traNc on the roads
than ever before. Personal mode of transport does provide a sense of comfort but along with it comes a sense of responsibility
too to follow traNc rules and road safety to practice safe driving, so that the road accidents can be reduced. Every person
should have taken a proper driving training under the guidance of an experienced authorised instructor before taking their
vehicles on road. Also, they should be familiar in handling serious situations related to vehicles or themselves on the roads to
save various road accidents and lives.

Road safety measure should also be added in the school curriculum as an important subject so that students can get detail
knowledge in their early age before driving. Proper service of the vehicles that are on roads is very much required to avoid any
catalytic situation. Brake system should be properly checked and the vehicles should be well equipped with brst aid box,
emergency tool kit, etc. People should keep in mind that their careless driving can not only end their lives but can also cause
harm to the other innocent souls.

While coming out of the bank I saw a monkey walking menacingly towards me. I panicked. The monkey snatched my bag and

wallet, car keys and also important documents. So, I started to chase the monkey, tree after tree, but could not obviously catch
it. Suddenly, I got an idea and I convinced a lady, who was seeing all this, to lend me her bag. So, I threw the bag on the door

land of fog and mist where the speaker had killed it and its spirit was taking the revenge of its murder by creating such horrible
troubles for them.
(b) The mariners hanged the albatross on the neck to give a redection of Christ on the cross and the salvation from sin that

(a) How did Patol Babu initially react to the role allotted to him?

(b) What kind of woman is Lavinia?

(c) What was the aim of the game Dragonquest?

(d) How does Decius Brutus interpret Calpurnia's dream?

(e) What do the expressions on Ozymandias' face reveal about him?

SOLUTION:
9. (a.) Patol Babu was looking for a role in a blm for a pretty long period of time. He was blled with enthusiasm and excitement
when he listened to Nishikanto Babu's words. Later, when the shooting day approached, he was disheartened to know that he
had to speak just a monosyllablen"oh!".
(b.) Lavinia was a very sentimental and emotional woman. She loved her husband but was also suspicious of him. She loved to
spend money on shopping and following fads.

(c.) The aim was basic where he, as a knight, had to rescue a princess by the name of Aurora who had been imprisoned in the
topmost area of the tallest tower of the dragon's castle lair. In his quest to do so he had to bght the wicked dragon who stood
guard there and on his way collect all the treasures of the dragon.
(d.) Calpurnia dreamt that Caesar' statue was spouting blood and the Romans were washing their hands in it. She considered it
a bad omen and asked Caesar not to step out of the house. Decius Brutus skillfully interprets the dream in a favourable
manner. He says that the dream signibes good fortune. He appeals to Caesar's pride and convinces him to come to the senate
house.

(e.) The statue as made by the sculptor is shown to be frowning and sneering. It conveys a feeling of cold command. The
artist has been successful in replicating the passions of the king's heart on the face of the statue which has outlived the might
and glory of the king even after his death.

Answer the following question in 80 – 100 words: (4)

Whenever we act against the voice of our conscience, the result is suffering. Explain with reference to the poet's action
against the snake and its consequences.
Or

Dedication and hard work are essential for success. Explain how these qualities enable Patol Babu to perform his small
role to perfection.

SOLUTION:
It is true that when ever we act against our conscience, the result is suffering. The same happened for the poet D.H. Lawrence
too. The poet despises himself and calls his sin "pettiness" because he feels himself responsible for chasing away the snake
with a stick. The three words to describe his action are: paltry, vulgar and mean. In the poem, the poet brst treats him like a
guest and calls him “like a god”. However, later, he is the same person who chases the snake away with a stick. The poet feels
very sorry for his disgraceful, unacceptable and uncouth behaviour and action and rebuked the voices of education and
civilisation that had shaped his thoughts and urged him to have chased awaythe creature.
OR

Patol Babu was determined and honest towards his work. Even though he was provided with a very small dialogue in the blm,
he was determined to make a mark and leave a lasting impression on everybody present on the set and the audience. Initially,
he was not happy with the length of his dialogue but he did not loose heart and practiced it several times and delivered the best
shot in a single take. His performance was so exceptionally well that the director was forced to take notice of it and admire his
talent. Thus, it can be concluded that patience and hard work always pays off.

What does Annes' diary reveal about the steadily worsening economic and social conditions during the war?

OR

What is your impression of Peter?

OR

Helen did not conbne herself to acquiring knowledge, but also enjoyed herself by taking part in outdoor activities.
Elaborate.

OR

Which traits of Helen's character appeal to you most? Give a reasoned answer.

SOLUTION:
Anne Frank's diary is not only a personal account of her life but also a social document which provides us with a brilliant
narrative on the socio-political conditions of her time. As she talks about the horrors of war and the persecution of the Jews
during the time of the Second World War, we see the image of a sensitive, perceptive and intelligent young girl emerging. Jews
were considered to be below human as we later get to see from various accounts emerging post the Holocaust period but
Anne's account shows the lived reality of the Jews who saw their lives taken away from them and doomed to a grim and bleak
future. Their identity, human and national was snatched away from them, prominent families like the Franks had to go into
hiding for no fault of their own and eventually, they were hastened to their deaths in the concentration camps. War brought its
own fair share of miseries and scarcities through which Anne was growing up. In all the accounts that Anne provides of the
condicts, military as well as ethnic, Anne's clarity of vision comes through regarding the banalities of such wars.

OR
Peter van Daan was a shy, awkward and quiet boy of sixteen. He was thoughtful, sensitive, sensible and observant, different
from his loud and brash parents. Reticent and reclusive, he was unlike other boys and Anne initially misjudged him to be a
hypochondriac, hypersensitive and lazy. He used to be sullen and diNcult because he had no friends and could not reach out to
anyone, especially his parents.

Peter turned out to be peace-loving, tolerant and extremely easygoing. He began conbding in Anne and made a determined
effort to express his innermost self also drawing out Anne in the process. He was much more closed than Anne was and took
time to open up as Anne says is characteristic of uncommunicative types. His contemplative years were spent in the annex,
bringing him close to Anne out of a sense of solidarity and companionship due to the isolation and loneliness that they both
felt. Peter had a solid and calming induence on Anne, there relationship was not romantic but forged out of a necessity to bnd a
kindred spirit in such trying times.

OR
Helen's pleasures and amusements were varied and many. She loved the country and out-of-door sports. As a little girl, she had
learned to row and swim so when she was atWrentham, Massachusetts, she almost lived in her boat. She loved to take her
friends out rowing when they visited her. She took immense pleasure in steering the staunch little boat as it skimmed over the
waves and one could feel the steady surge of the water. She also enjoyed canoeing especially on moonlit nights. Then her
favourite amusement was sailing and experiencing the thrill of regattas. Helen also enjoyed a spin on her tandem bicycle apart
from being accompanied by her canine friends on a walk, ride or sail. Her dog friends were some of her dearest companions
because they understood her limitations and kept close when she was alone. Her other interests included knitting, crocheting,
reading in a happy-go-lucky manner or playing a game of checkers or chess with a friend. If she happened to be alone, she
would amuse herself with a game of solitaire but if children were around, she would frolic with them. Museums and art stores
were her sources of pleasure and inspiration, bringing alive myths and history in her mind. Another of her pleasures was going
to the theatre and having a play described to her while it was being enacted.
OR

The trait of Hellen's character that really appeals me is her will and perseverence. Helen's triumph in pursuing her education is a
testament to the qualities of human will and perseverance, it especially goes on to show that one can overcome great
disadvantages even if they are physically manifested. As Helen was inspired in her quest, she in turn inspires other physically
disabled people by showing that there is nothing can stand in one's way, not even deafness and blindness, if one puts their
mind to a task. Not even a lot of able bodied people can achieve what Helen did. The life story of a deaf and blind person
makes for an inspirational read because it bears testimony to the powers of the human will and endurance in the face of
adversities. It is the account of a human being's exceptional powers of perseverance which enables the person to overcome all
odds to triumph in life. Helen Keller could neither see nor hear but her achievements belie her physical limitations. Her
intellectual capabilities and aesthetic sensibilities could not be constrained by her physical disadvantages, her thirst for
knowledge was unquenchable and her love of life, human or natural, boundless.
