Research Proposal for Coral Reef Impacts

I personally chose the research topic of Global warming and negative effects on coral

reefs. This particular subject interested me because I hope to major in zoology and I am

fascinated with wildlife conservation. I think staying informed about what is going in the world

is key to understanding the environment and how we can constantly work to improve it. So that

led me to the coral reef systems, which are some of the most important biodiversified areas in the

world. Bringing attention to the ocean which many people care a great deal about when educated

on it, as to offer potential solutions formulated from knowledge. Therefor, this is a subject I

knew I would enjoy learning about and could produce a 10-12 page paper on!

I feel that this topic is a very important to ocean conservation because these ecosystems

are full of so much life that balances the ocean’s chemical environment as well as protecting

several of the world’s most endangered species who live coharmonal/codependent relationships.

It stands out as a region because this specific place is greatly affected by humans and could

easily have great steps taken forth to solve if we made minor changes to be eco-friendly our

everyday lives. I think this topic is quite fascinating but very underrated in society despite it

being brought to public light in ways like the popular Disney movie “Finding Nemo” or in

aquarium conservation throughout the world. It really does deserve more recognition and

importance because of how detrimental the collapse of coral reefs could be to oceans

everywhere. I believe that we should in fact step in because climate change and human pollution

could be the end result of these fragile ecosystems. Without them, the ocean’s collapse could

lead to worldwide issues throughout other biomes that begin to influence a negative change to

our own water supply and habitable areas. I already know some pertinent information about this

topic such as the chemical impacts of coral reefs on things such as the ocean’s pH levels, the

negative impacts of human pollution on the endangered species of the region, and the foundation

that this ecosystem provides to the rest of the ocean’s upkeep. These are all very crucial points in

the understanding of how we influence the organic balance of coral reefs.

My research will be centered around the questions of “What are the causes behind Global

Warming and its worldwide impact on Coral Reefs?” and “What is our role as a society to

intervene in environmental decline/impacts for ecosystems such as the coral reefs?” I am hoping

to learn more about environmental conservation and what can be done to preserve the precious

bioactive regions we have in the world. I think i’ll find a lot of the information for this topic

through scientific conservation programs and their research studies, as well as marine

biologists/chemists who have written on the affected areas. I still need to collect research on

important data factors found in the erosions/decline of these ecosystems and how climate change

over the years have changed weather patterns to these regions. As well as public awareness and

involvement of these fragile places and what our responsibility is to intervene on then. I hope to

focus through this paper on the overall cause and effect of coral reef, including the not so

obvious solutions to change them.
