2. UPS System Introduction
2-1 Operation Mode
 11KVA 3U UPS has 4 kinds of basic operation mode.
► AC mode (ON-LINE mode)
The UPS can work at AC mode while the load, input voltage and input frequency meet the
below conditions.

Conditions
Input volt 100~156Vac 156~280Vac 280~300Vac
Load De-rating linearly <100% <90%
Input freq 40~70HZ

► BACKUP mode (BATTERY mode)

When AC power is not present, or the input voltage/frequency is out of the tolerance, the
UPS will work at BACKUP mode.
The UPS will work at BACKUP mode if it is set on cold start.

► BYPASS mode
The UPS can work at BYPASS mode when the I/O voltage meets the conditions shown as
below.

Output voltage Input voltage

240Vac 156~276Vac
200~230Vac 156~264Vac

The UPS will work at BYPASS mode when any of below conditions occurs.
1. No start with normal AC source
2. BUS OVP,UVP
3. Over-temperature protection
4. Inverter OVP,UVP,FAIL
5. Overload
6. Output short
7. MCU invalid

► ECONOMIC mode
If it is set on ECO mode and the input voltage is within +/-10% of the output voltage, the
UPS will work at ECO mode.
The current path at ECO mode is the same as the one at BYPASS mode.

17
2-2 Operation Mode Introduction

2-2-1 Normal Mode (Single Unit)

(Fig.2-2-1 Normal Mode)

 When the utility power is applied to the UPS, it will be converted from AC to DC via
rectifying and PFC. Then one path of the DC voltage will be supplied to the inverter and
produce clear and steady sine output voltage for the load. The other path will be supplied
to charge the battery.

2-2-2 Backup Mode (Single Unit)

(Fig.2-2-2 Backup Mode Flow Chart)

 The UPS will automatically transfer to BACKUP mode when the input voltage is abnormal
(power off, abnormal waveform, sags and surges). The PFC will be powered by the
battery to produce DC voltage which will be supplied to the inverter and produce clear and
steady sine output voltage for the load.

18
2-2-3 Bypass Mode (Single Unit)

(Fig.2-2-3 Bypass Mode Flow Chart)

 When either overload or over-temperature occurs with normal input voltage, the UPS will
automatically transfer to BYPASS mode. It will recover by itself to normal mode once the
fault is eliminated. If any of the conditions such as the output short, BUS OVP, rectifier
failure, I/O fuse open occurs, the UPS will automatically transfer to BYPASS mode.

2-2-4 Normal Mode (Parallel Redundancy & Common Battery)

(Fig.2-2-4 Normal Mode in Parallel)

 When two UPSs are in parallel mode, the capacity, output voltage, output frequency and
the load connected to the two units must be same. Once one of the units fails, all of the
load will be bore by the other unit. If the total load is out of its capacity, the UPS will
transfer to BYPASS mode and the load will be powered by bypass.

19
2-2-5 Backup Mode (Parallel Redundancy & Common Battery)

(Fig.2-2-5 Backup Mode in Parallel)

 When abnormal input condition occurs, the two UPSs will automatically enter the backup
mode, equally supplying the power to the load. The UPSs will recover to normal mode
once the input returns to normal level.

2-2-6 Bypass Mode (Parallel Redundancy & Common Battery)

(Fig.2-2-6 Bypass Mode in Parallel)

 Just the same as described in chapter 2-2-3, two UPSs will simultaneously transfer to
BYPASS mode, equally supplying power to the load.

67
 Network:
It is for setting UPS short-circuit protection. If the item is enabled, when the UPS is
operating at AC mode and the input AC is within the normal range of bypass, the UPS will
transfer to bypass mode as soon as transient high current is detected. It will recover to
online mode once the current comes to normal level. (The default is DISABLE.)

 Bypass Out of Tolerance Transfer Enable:

► The BYPASS is always ON regardless of bypass voltage range. (The default is
DISABLE.)

 When fault LCD can scroll:

► LCD can scroll even if fault occurs. However, if not pressing the UP/DOWN arrow
Keys, the fault information will auto display again at the front. (The default is
DISABLE.)

 Bypass Mode slow beep:

► The buzzer can beep (On 0.1s/Off 1.9s) when the UPS is operating at bypass mode to
remind the user. (The default is DISABLE.)

 Bypass frequency range for transfer on bypass:

► It is used to set the normal range of working at bypass mode. The output will be
shutdown if out of the range.
► The default is +6% of the frequency (that is 50Hz+6% or 60Hz+6%).

 Eco mode frequency range in %:

► It is use to set the normal range of working at ECO mode. The UPS will transfer to
inverter mode if out of the tolerance.
► The default is+6% of the frequency ( that is 50Hz+6% or 60Hz+6%).

 High bypass voltage threshold for transfer:

► It is used to the high voltage threshold at bypass mode. The bypass output will be
shutdown if out of the voltage.
► The default is 264V when the rating output is one of 200/208/220/230V. It is 276V
when the rating output is 240V.

 Eco mode high threshold:

► It is used to set the high voltage threshold of eco mode transfer. The UPS will transfer
to inverter mode if out of the threshold.
► The default is +10% of the rating operating voltage.

68
 Low bypass voltage threshold for transfer:
► It is used to set low voltage threshold when the UPS is operating at bypass mode. The
output from bypass will be shutdown when the voltage is out of the tolerance.
► The default is 156V.

 Eco mode low threshold:

► It is used to set low voltage threshold of eco mode transfer. The UPS will transfer to
inverter mode if out of this voltage.
► The default is -10% of the rating operating voltage.
