N479 Professional Activity Evaluation Form

Your Name: Cassidy Leroux Date of Activity: 2/8 & 2/15 Faculty name: Mary O’Connell

Describe the community service/professional activity/s you attended or participated with

(be specific about the purpose and your role):

On 2/8, I volunteered with a group of students to cook dinner at the Ronald McDonald House. In

doing this, we provided the families of children receiving cancer treatment with a free, home-

cooked meal ready for them when they returned from the hospital. We purchased the ingredients,

cooked, and served the food while interacting with the families that were living in the House.

On 2/15, I received my ACLS certification in a 6-hour class. My role in this activity was as a

nursing student furthering my knowledge of life support. The purpose of this activity was to

advance my nursing knowledge and further my experience and career.

Where was this held and what was was program/activity length?

Ronald McDonald House- 2 hours (2155 E Allen Rd, Tucson, AZ)

ACLS- 6 hours (Eclipse CPR- 4500 E Speedway Blvd, Tucson, AZ)

Discuss the value of this experience to you (be specific).

To me, Ronald McDonald house was an opportunity to do something that I love, cooking with

my friends, while also providing the most deserving people with a warm meal. It reminded me

how absolutely blessed I am to live a life that is free of the sadness and worries that come with

having a critically sick child. This is something that I would love to continue to do on my own

time and not for credit because I feel like it is the least that I can do to give back to the world for

how lucky I am.

Receiving my ACLS certification was a moment that brought me great pride in myself and my

accomplishments. It really showed me how far I’ve come in my nursing education and how

much I can and will achieve in the coming years. It blows my mind to think that I can be trusted

with the responsibility of being a code leader, but after this class I am confident in my ability to

do so. It also invigorated me to always continue learning and receiving new certifications and

experiences in my nursing career.

Would you recommend this specific communnity/professional experience in the future;

why or why not? (Describe)

I would absolutely recommend either of these activities to any nursing students in the future.

Ronald McDonald House was an amazing opportunity to use nursing as a means to help others

and connect with them when they really need human connection. ACLS was an amazing career

advancement opportunity that will look good on a resume and allow me to be the best nurse that

I possibly can be. Both aspects that these experiences brought were an incredible addition to this

class and I am very thankful that I did them both!
