Research Proposal

While I was attending Miamisburg Middle School, I participated in the band. I played the

trumpet and I was first chair in the band, which symbolizes that I was considered the most

talented trumpet player in the band. My first year of band was in sixth grade and I believe I got

the hang of playing an instrument fairly quickly. Sixth grade was the start of actual somewhat

difficult classes, and I believe that band really helped me that year. While taking band, I realized

that learning is easier for harder for people. I also saw my potential and learned what kind of

learner I was. There were other classes that were considered the classes of the Arts, and these

classes really opened up my mind to all kinds of different ways of learning. In other foreign

countries, for example China, they teach kids the Arts at a very young age so they see all

different kinds of learning. Personally, I believe that it should be like that in the United States as

well. If the Arts were pulled from schools, how would it affect students?

I believe this is a good research question because if I were to not have been in different

Arts classes while in Middle School, I do not believe I would be the student that I am today.

Personally, students that are in the Arts in my High School typically tend to have a strong work

ethic and excel in more difficult of classes. As I said previously, in other countries the Arts are

glorified in children’s younger years because it helps to show the children different ways of

learning. I feel very passionately about this topic and believe the Arts should be more glorified in
in the world, specifically the United States. Also, I think this topic is very important and it could

help a lot of students who struggle with work ethic. The Arts are used in other countries for

helping young children from the get go with learning ability and I think it should be used for all

children.

What I would like to continue to find out about this topic is how specifically it is taught to

children, how it helps their mind in growing and learning different ways how to learn, and how

much it really can impact someone. I think I will start to find the answers to these questions in

different articles about music, acting, and different Arts and how they contain participation from

excelling students. One research questions about this topic I am considering is, “How would

taking the Arts from schools affect students?” Another research question I am considering using

is, “How do the Arts help students with learning in school?”
